What's the most disappointing knife you own?

The Bagwell-Ontario. Great knife, my hand could not get use to the coffin handle. Sold it off to a friend.

I think if I had it back, I would rehandle it with a stag stick, I need a bit of drop in my handles.

Spyderco Harpy. A very well made and nice looking hawbill with a full Spyderedge that I got for utility and yard work. Yet, it doesn't work well at all. I'm sorry but that Spyder-edge is the worst part. The serrations are just too big, such that it won't cut without exerting a major sideways force and usually rips everything. Real fun to sharpen. That was the last serrated knife I'll buy. I'ts also too short. The spyder-hole is so close to the palm of the hand that it requires a major concetrated effort to contort ones hand to open it one-handed (unless your hands are very small). The knife opens hard. The opening hole is also too small and sharp edged such that it hurts your thumb to open (so I don't like opening it, which is usually the fun part of most knives). It's also hard to close. Don't like it, no.

CRKT Point Guard. returned the first one because it had a bad lock. The second one never instilled confidence either, so it was traded away.

I didn't learn my lesson, and got a KFF because it was sooooo hyped in these forums. Same problem - bead blasted lock bar doesn't go "snap", and I have no confidence in it. It's gone now too.

I'm hoping this linerlock trend turns around soon. haven't we all learned our lesson yet?

Lockbacks forever!

Gerber Chameleon. Hard to open, uncomfortable handle, dull, and just a cheap feel altogether.

Emerson SOFCK. When I first bought it I was enthralled, but that feeling soon worn off. Very stiff to open, and it would be a stretch to say the blade had an edge..went back to Emerson, the opening was smooth, but still did not have a useful edge. Was sent to a forumite for a double v grind. I carried it for a few months then shelved it in favor of something else. Used it off and on until I realized the liner had moved almost all the way across the tang of the blade. I'm afraid this one didn't live up to the hype.

Timberline Mini Pit Bull. Nothing really wrong with the knife, just that it isn't as big as I'd thought. Too small for me to comfortably use it.

I bought an Emerson True Satin Super Commander. I just was not impressed. This is just my opinion, but the knife felt very lightweight. The liner was the thinnest I have encountered on a high ticket knife. There was lots of flex and what seemed like side to side blade play. Don't get me wrong. It never failed to do it's job, and it was a scary sharp knife. I just could not warm up to it. I traded it for a Microtech CT 2 and am happy with the deal. So was the gent that got the Commander, so it is a matter of taste I guess.

I am glad I am not the only one to be underwhelmed by the Commander. Now if the commander were built like my Strider GB that would be one hell of a knife. :D

That would be AWESOME!!

There were some Nealy lock knives sold, I believe through Smokey Mountain years ago that while they looked nice were a POC. The blade is attached to a spring and you close it by pulling the blade forward which unlocks it and then rotate it closed. Any lint, dirt or sand makes the knives impossible to close properly. Now I know why they were dirt cheap and I bought three different sizes.

:(

by timberline!!! that was my first knife, i still have it too, not tooo bad, but i accidentaly fcked it up by tring to sharpen it with a dremel tool :(

do you know what blade steel that was?

Emerson Commander. Once the "wow" of it wore off, I was pretty disappointed with it. Thin liners, the lock was sometimes "sticky", blade had side to side play, lock would move when a little pressure was put on the spine, and the lock went all the way over to the right within a month. The ergonomics were great though.

Had to be the MOD Scorpion neck knife. Steel was fine (ATS-34 or 154CM, don't remember which), very sharp out of the box with neat grinds, sheath was OK - supposedly kydex but didn't seem to be well-fit. The problem was that the knife just seemed dangerous to use. It has no guard, handle is skeletonized, and the blade top edge is sharpened all the way back to the finger grooves - an accident waiting to happen. The Scorpion is marketed as a self-defense tool, but you really don't want to try a fast draw on a knife like this - too easy to open up your thumb on the top edge. Plus, over-priced at over $80 street-price.

On the other hand, I really like the MOD Razorback - I have 2 and this is my usual choice for a quick-access blade when I'm hiking or camping.

Becker Campanion. A big honking knife with balance that is too good. I bought it for a short chopper and it just isn't blade heavy enough for that. My old Cattaraugus 225Q is a way better chopper.

I've been in the process of hogging metal out of the handle to try to move the weight forward, but I still have a ways to go yet. (That steel is tough, I tell you!)

If that doesn't work I may try to make it into a folder. Call it the SWAT (Short, Wide And Tough):D

My Carbon Fiber Delica...I've got a CF William Henry and the carbon fiber scales are very cool...when I saw there was a CF Delica available, I just had to have it!

Well, the very cool matte CF on the WH is not the same on the Delica. It has some sort of slick plastic-like coating...it's like carbon fiber "colored" plastic. Also, the finish around the lanyard hole is very ragged .

On the plus side, I will say the VG-10 blade came razor sharp.

The last few CRKT knives I have bought.

These used to be good inexpensive knives, they filled a niche, now it sems that all bets are off.

Designs that are trendy and are "Xtreme", lose my interest.

tarani master karambit, S30V steel, looks great, fitted well, just doesnt fit my hand well,i think my hand is a little big, barely fits in the ring, and is hard to open for me, i can open any normal knife MUCH faster. understand the karambit principles, but i dont think its for me, lol, also an ugly bugger imho. i do have a large hand, wear a very big ring/bracelets.

give me an emerson any day, ANY emerson

Mine would be Gerber Applegate Combat Folder bought in 1997 Failed the Spinewhacktest amnd the blade was so dull you could sit on it and ride all the way to Constantinople.
Lesson learned.

Emerson CQC-7 Mini-B. It feels good in the hand, and I like the looks of it, but...

I hate the chisel ground blade, the blade had bad grind marks on the back, the blade has a ton of side to side play, and the lock is almost all the way over to the right after a very short time. I'll end up giving it to a someone at work.

My Sebbies and Striders on the other hand :D :D :D
Happy holidays everyone,
John...

S&W Powerglide. The blade is ok but the handle is rubbish! Bizarrely balanced and too big. Would get rid of it but haven't bothered trying yet!
