What's the most ridiculous comments you have heard about Spyderco knives?

I think the most ridiculous comment I 'heard' (read, actually) was from someone on BFC who said "they all look exactly alike to me."

I'm almost positive that was posted in General :)

Well to be perfectly frank it wasn't all that long ago that I would view some of these massive Spyderco collections people have on the internet and think that most of them looked like very subtle variations on a common theme. Now that I own fifteen of them, I see that the differences really are fun. But from a purely visual standpoint, I thought they were subtle.

And before somebody says it, no I'm not saying the Massad Ayoob looks mostly like the Des Horn or anything. Obviously there are some really different knives.

I have to agree, and I'm VERY happy to see Spyderco producing some very different-looking knives, like the Leafstorm and PPT.

"I don't buy none of them foreign knives - only ones made right here in the good old U. S. of A. All them Spyder knives are expensive Jap imports anyway."

Then I showed him my Para 2.

That when they are closed they look like little sleeping animals or birds

... but I don't know if that is silly or not, cos most of mine look like little sleeping animals or birds when they are closed :D

" I won't use/own a knife made in Japan " And that was over 20 years ago when they were new and "ugly". Never mind how mine out performed everything else on the job. Learned then not to wrestle with pigs in the mud.

I heard a diff type of ridiculous claim about spydercos lol. There was a very large elderly black woman at Walmart who undoubtedly was crazy she said plain as day " spydercos ate my kids" Lmao. I'm not sure if this outlandish claim is true but she was serious

"this could cut down a arm with one swing" from my waiter talking about my SE spyderhawk

My friend, John is just getting into good knives but thinks he knows alot about them.
So i was showing him my sage 1 and the minute he looked at it he said.. "You should put a torsion bar in this so it opens faster" I replied with a prompt "No"

The craziest thing I ever heard about Spydercos if you bought one you would become obsessed and buy more.

Alright, that one may be true.

Excuse me; I have to clean up the beer that shot out of my nose when I read that.

Was buying some new steel in Arizona and the old man at the counter asked what I like. I said Spyderco, and he showed me his SS delicas and enduras. " Yeah, I like the Japanese made Spydercos. But they also got some Chinese crap floating around." He proceeded to spill his infinite wisdom on the subject until I reached in my pocket. "Now that's Chinese right there." As I showed him my Orange Manix 2. I pointed out the Golden, Colorado stamp, and he says to me "Boy, those Chinese have no shame, bet they never been to Colorado." At this point I realized he had never heard of sprint runs. I just laughed and bought his last SS Cricket for my girl at the time. I'll never forget that old man.

You guys are being too harsh. (: Many of the things mentioned in this thread are things that, at one time or another, I also thought of Spyderco knives. Only after handling and using one of their knives did I become a fan. I give a lot of Spydercos as gifts (this Christmas will be no exception) and it's always funny to see skeptics become converts. First, the one-hand opening (Aha! That's what the hole is for...) then they cut themselves (Darn! This thing is sharp.) Invariably, days later they want another one. (Who has an ugly knife, now?)

I don't think they look weird or all the same. However, on some models, I personally think a non-spyderholed blade would have been more aesthetically pleasing, i.e. the Vallotton collaboration.
