What's the most useful traditional pattern to you.

Good question, this is one question I would like to ask my friend BLUES..the Super mod.He loves slippies now lives in N Carolina & prob.uses slipies more than most.Be interesting to see which pattern he chooses & wonder if it will be production or custom!Course knowing BLUES...he will prob.dodge the bullet,& say something slippy PC ....saying he has no fav.& likes all patterns.

Jim,

Well, I may have to disappoint you but not because I'm being PC.

For utility, I think it'd be hard to beat a stockman (the pattern I have more of than any other) or the Bose inspired wharncliffe trapper which have excellent blades for near any application.

That said, and utility aside, I really enjoy carrying anything from single blade sodbusters and trappers to multi-blades like the stockman or congress.

At this particular moment I have a two bladed Scagel repro by Tomes in my back pocket. It's a little beast and you've got to love those forged blades.

I am truly suprise by the percentages of people who love the stockman. I mean, Dang. Almost every reply had a stockman pattern in there. That's what my generation would call "hardcore":)

I like the trapper, either small or large. Could never really find a use
for the third blade. Also like the single blade slimline trapper a lot for edc.

Ok Blues...GOT YA!! What is YOUR fav...the ONE you carry most?? Don't give me that standard STOCKMAN ans.either.Bet if I gave all those(including you)who "love" stockman a well made WHITTLER...made it REPLACE their stockman for ONE month....ya'll would NEVER call the stockman your fav.again!! FACE FACTS...a WHITTLER is better made & is classier.HA...got ya this time MY FRIEND!...

My vote goes for a 3 blade stockman..I have one that has worn a spot on my leg for almost 20 years..

Well, Jim old boy, you're gonna be heartbroken to find out that I traded my beautiful (museum quality) Reese Bose made Rodgers Whittler for a beautiful (museum quality) Reese Bose made Sowbelly Stockman.

I don't necessarily carry my favorite the most. (And they all get rotated pretty regularly.)

Kinda like trying to nail down mercury, huh? :p

This forum is bbbbaaaaadddddd JUJU !

You guys got me looking at Case knives now. There's so many models and colors I could look alllllll day!

I'll be looking out for these knives in person and I have a full appreciation for the classic models like the stockman. But I have to say that the slimlock damascus sure does have a nice look to it.

*gulp*

I surprised myself in addressing this question. After my big downsizing a while back I had given away most of my modern knives that I accumulated on my own. For the past year I've been carrying more and more one of my special knives from gone family or friends. Although I tote a peanut or my old yellow soddie on occasion, Most of my edc old specials are stockmen.

Mine- peanut
sodbuster
small sak.

edc from my cigar box-Dad's peanut
Grandads stockman
Uncle Mike's stockman
Paul Brittons stockman
Andy Wardons stockman

Thats four stockman that were carried by old time working men. There must be a reason stockmen outnumber everything else.
