We all grew up wanting to drive Uncle Dave's '68 Camaro or Aunt Betty's '38 knuckle or our brothers '71 El Camino. For me it was my Old Man's 1971 Chevy CST20, with the 350 1971 350/330HP @ 5600 360 ft lbs @ 4000 (this was the LT1 installed in the camaros and vettes)

Mr and my Old Man did a complete body off, ground up bolt by bolt restoration motor and trans completely torn down and rebuilt new, probably the last 2 years of the old man's life as spent doing this we finished in 75, it was done up for 71, it had the extended 8'8" bed, the tool boxes in the rocker panels, special metal flake green that was available that year, extra springs to make it a 1 ton 4wd truck.

It had the complete towing package with the bigger transmission and oil cooler, 6 way leather Cadillac adjustable seat, site conditioning and an 8-track stereo fm with fast forward and track repeat and program.

Oh yea it had a rare factory air conditioner, that was the truck I always wanted, when he died I was gonna be 16 in 8 months. Unfortunately we had to make mortgage on 3 buildings, taxes, upkeep, school, my Old Man's Autocar, so mom sold it against my better judgement for $2,000, the truck was like brand new. According to the tags and paper work it was a little over 3 years old, in reality it was brand new with less than 1,000 miles on it.

I loved that truck and I'd give nearly anything to have it back, about 10 years ago I built a 71 with my buddy who honored my Old Man by doing it as close to his as he could afford.

So....... what was that one car, maybe your sisters mustang or the neighbors Porsche 911,, that one car you would have given anything to get but never did. Maybe you did get that car, pics if ya have 'em, even pics of the cars from other sources that show the car you always wanted before you could drive.

Metallic tan Mercury Comet GT, I don't know what year. It was my Dad's car that got sold before I was five years old. All I can remember about the details is that it could lay rubber for about 50 feet in reverse before doing a J-turn. Dad loved Bullitt and Steve McQueen.

My dad had a red '69 Mustang Fastback he bought off the showroom floor $3000. Was the family car growing up. Mom backed it into a utility pole so it had a white replacement trunk. Sat under a tree for a couple of years after they bought a station wagon. I couldn't wait to get my license and drive it!

He sold it to my cousin 3 months before my 16th birthday. *sigh* Probably would have hurt myself anyway. Right? Bah

I owned most if the cars that everybody else wanted to drive but I had an uncle that owned an Indian, don't even know what model. He didn't ride it long before in ended up at the farm in pieces and then he went off to the service. When he got out he gave it or sold it, I'm not even sure which because I was still only about 12 or 14, anyway it ended up with a neighbor kid of his that wanted it to chop, I wish now I'd have been a couple years older.

I remember when my uncle first got his WRX STi...that instantly became my dream car for a while. He would drive us kids around in it and we loved it.
The STi is still a coveted car for me to this day

My mom's 94 300zx twin turbo.

My uncle had fixed it up and sold to my father to avoid losing to ex wife.

thing was stupid fast.

Gotta love the old iron, here's the closest we could get to my Old Man's truck, took 2 years with my buddy, he did it as a tribute to my Old Man, he was like my buddy's father too, taught him to work in cars..

Here's a 71/72 Chevy CST we did, this entire truck was easier and less aggravatin' than swappin' a motor in a Turbo Jetta.

NICE truck, Ted !
For me it was the next door neighbor's '67 L88 'Vette.
Black w/red stripes, 4 gear, ragtop.
Still dreaming about that one.

My mom drove a 1972 Monte Carlo (dark brown, looked black) that I was embarrassed to be seen in with her when I was a kid, but really REALLY wanted to drive once I got my license. Well, my parents got rid of it shortly before I was old enough to drive, so I instead got stuck driving an `82 Oldsmobile Delta 88 until I could afford my own car. Nothing cool about that.

my dad had a split year i think 63 or 64 ford galaxy 500. i wanted that was the coolest car, it was caught in a storage fire i was devastated.

I got to build quite a few cars with my Old Man before he died one of them was supposed to be my first car an early 70s Honda 600N sedan, never put it on the road though sold it to help pay some house bills after he died. I did put a few miles on it driving around my tiny little 50 sq ft back yard. :)

The car was so tiny, it had a 4 cylinder 500cc motorcycle motor, 12" tires and weighed less than a 1,000 lbs we used to pick it up with 3 guys and move it around the yard. :) didn't take much to keep me amused back then. :)

Had a few uncles that would not be convinced into letting me drive their cars.

First was a 1956 Corvette convertible.

Second was a 1970 Mustang Mach I 428 Cobrajet

In highschool, my best friends parents owned a body shop that I worked at for extra $. My best friend had no real drive for older cars..Nothing like his little brother.. His car that he worked on for a year or two was a 67RSSS Camaro. Loved that car..
One day, I will have a 69RS camaro. Won one on ebay in December and the seller was a stinking flake. Couldn't produce the title and strung me along for a month on the car.

Love the old cars!

When I was little, my parents had a 356 Coupe (sorry, can't be more specific than that) in a garage/barn. If it was ever working when I was alive, I have no memory of it. I do remember plenty of rust though.

But damn what a cool car that'd be to have now.

Growing up my oldest brother was quite a bit older than me and he had a 1965 Plymouth Valiant. Purple, just a shade darker than Plum Crazy with some metal flake in it. The roof was black/white checkerboard. Interior was black/cream leather. I can't remember if it had a 318 or 340 in it. What a sweet car. He used to take me for rides and we'd cruise with the windows down and listen to the rumble and smell the exhaust. I loved that car. Unfortunately in my late teens/early twenties my family went through some drama and my brother and I didn't speak for a couple years, and in that time he sold it. Probably just as well. I don't have the knowledge to maintain an old car like that for a daily driver and don't have the funding for a "fun" car. But I will always want that Valiant.

My family had lots of old Mopar stuff over the years due to my family ties with the local dodge dealership, but the one I wished was still around was my mom's '70 Challenger. Just a 318, but was set up more for street than strip. It was rolled before I was born, Im going to have to dig out some pictures of it. For the ones I remember, it was probably the '73 Charger. Harvest gold with white vinyl top.

Plenty of motorcycles too, the Triumph I helped my dad rebuild when I was 8 or 9 (more like hand parts and tools to him) was a pretty cool bike.

When I was pretty young, my parents had a 1968 Chevy Malibu. I remember the little 327 badge on the fender. I was about 6 or 7. The car was about 8 or 9 years old. It was a light blue with a black top. I didn't know much about cars, but that one stuck in my memory. Sadly at some point it was gone. I think that they ended trading it in on a Ford LTD :barf:

This is not it, random picture from Google, but this is what I remember it looking like:

God I wish I had that car now.
