I used to collect traditionals for decades. Took me 10 years to whittle down my collection to a few users. Have no desire to go down that route again. When I started it was a fairly cheap hobby with a lot of history and documentation to dive into. I had no need to do it for profit and it lead me to accumulate.
After a while it felt like a ball and chain I had to drag around with me and decided to let them go. Occasionally I’ll see a cool old pattern at a yard sale or released by a maker and give it a spin. Usually I end up giving it away or selling for a loss after I realize it does nothing better than your bog standard Case large stockman.
Is still go to the occasional show and have fun talking the history and seeing individual knives from sellers and customers. It satisfies my collecting bug without having to buy anything.
