What's the problem with AutoLAWKs?

The way I see it, I'd rather have it engage every time.

I don't need to CLOSE my knife quickly, I need to deploy it quickly, and make damned sure it stays deployed until I'm done using it.

So why do some people try to convert their AutoLAWKs back into a LAWKs?

Personal preference? I don't own any Autolawks, but I am sure it would annoy the crap out of me at times. It also seems like its unnecessary and a little gimmicky, same with the Lawks, but that is just IMO...

I never had a problem with auto lawks on my m16 but it does confuse other people who try to close it.

being left handed trying to use a right hand designed knife is not that comfortable. i know there are left handed versions but not all stores carry those and if for some reason i have to borrow a knife its normally not the left handed one. i do however enjoy LAWKS and it seems to work pretty well. so i wouldnt mind it if it were on any of the designs i liked

My problem with it is that crkt uses it as a crutch for a shitty primary lock ! If they got the liner lock right there is no need for auto lawks IMO !!!

My m16 with autolawks is very, very strong I have put it through some tough stuff.

The only example I had was soo bad that the liner didn't actually touch the tang when opened therefor being untweakable ! It's The only knife I've ever returned !!! Yes it won't unlock because of the auto lawks but unexceptable in my book !!

Ah, I see, that sucks dude. On my m16 the liner is right smack in the middle of the tang .

My take on AutoLawks is simple, usually when I am using a knife at work which is my primary hard useage of blades ( i am an auto technician for land rover) but usually my other hand is encumbered. I need to move fast because the faster I do things and accomplish jobs the more money I personally make. The problem with autolawks is that it makes it more difficult to close the knife one handedly. I have also found that the little red/brass switch is uncomfortable on my finger tip. I don't have any issue with the normal LAWKS because then if I am using the blade under hard use, I have the choice to engage extra protection. But over the years I have had many knives with both of the systems, and over time every single one that had autolawks I eventually removed the system entirely. This is simply my opinion based on the way I generally use my knives, and the way you use your knives may vary completely, so for you this could be a very convenient system. But I like to be able to flip it open, perform cutting task, close without thinking and slip back into my pocket.

I was wondering why the bad rap myself. I admit to being right handed and I really am impressed with the reliability and ease of use to open and close. I like it on my 16 and 21. I think that some people like to complain about CRKT in general.

I'm interested in anything that will decrease the chance of a blade closing on my fingers. I find the AutoLAWKS on my M16 simple to use, and it works

The only problem with the autoLAWKS that I see is that it advertises itself as a 'virtual fixed blade.' This might encourage someone who doesn't know any better to do something very stupid with their folder...

Sounds like you got a fake.

There's a huge problem with fake CRKT and other knives.

Fake CRKTs are quite common and have shoddy construction.

People who own the pre-LAWK version are not complaining about the strength of the liner.

I have used a few CRKT knives over the years, the old Taiwan ones and the newer Chinese ones. I think they are the worst linerlocks made. Also that LAWKS washer is so thin and soft that it buckles out of the way if the liner fails and you put a good amount negative pressure on it anyways. Go with a stronger lock instead:thumbup:

I have an M4-13 with Outburst and AutoLAWKS. It's a fine knife, has a very comfortable handle, opens fast, locks well.
Closing is easy once you figure it out.
I like it.

A: because I don't consider the job done until the knife is back in my pocket. So it does take longer to finish a cutting chore.

B: I feel like it "fixes" a problem that doesn't exist. In a word, it fixes negligent lock disengagement. It does not actually strengthen the lock. Maybe it's just me, but I've never had any problem accidentally disengaging a lock. If you have a problem with that, then maybe the AutoLawks is for you.

That said, I'm using only traditional knives for the month of June, so my cutting time has increased a bit.. :P

I agree. I see it as a band aid fix for a liner manufactured with poor machining tolerances. I've been bitten by CRKT's before, it seems the cheaper the model the worse the problem.
The one solid CRKT I had (large M16 special forces somethingorrather...yadayadayada U.S A. made)I gave away to a Tanto nut, the others I had went in the bin.
