What's the problem with Queens back springs

Yeah, 2005 sounds about right. The 1095 was, as far as I know, the first run the Queen made of this model of knife. It was a hit and they then made all the other variations. I believe there was the red bone like mine, a worm grooved root beer bone.... Maybe another as well.

Anyway that is a long winded way of saying it was a very early run. But mine broke twice and the one I gifted my brother broke as well. Maybe they've fixed the problem. I hope so, I liked the company and switched to GEC because of the leadership of those guys at Queen who started the new outfit.

Hope this new info helps you out.

Thank you, Will and BoilerUp. That is exactly what I was hoping to hear. It's unfortunate that these problems existed, but hopefully the cases that we hear about going forward will continue to be from older knives.

I heard from the Queen Collectors Club at the Mason Dixon knife show that the original owners of Queen, Servitronics, did a bad heat treat on an enormous amount of backsprings. That was followed up by them not scrapping the backsprings but using them. Now, the Daniels are trying to rectify that situation. My recent Queens have not had any issues, but one of my Schatt and Morgan Heritage jacks had a bad main blade backspring, while the pen blade backspring is almost perfect. This one is in bone, I have another in ebony and another in rosewood, and they are in great shape, no issues knock on wood.

Peters has been doing the treat for Queen for a long time.... Thus this story is quit suspect, but could have happened at some time I guess.

Exact same thing happened to me with a mountain man. Had been in the box for awhile, and upon opening the box, found the back spring broken and the blade flopping around like a newly caught fish. I contacted Queen and sent in the knife for repair. Six weeks later the knife was returned. The back spring was replaced, but the action on knife was never the same. I put it back in the box, and have not opened it since.

Needless to say I was unimpressed.

In the past year I have bought several knives from Queen and have had no issues. I have been very pleased with the recent knives from Queen. They seem to have solved their quality control issues.

Of the recent Queen knives I've handled I can attest to an incredible change in the quality and fit / finish. Current models being pumped out are really very good.

I've handled about 400 Queen / Schatt & Morgan since January 2015, and about ~800 of the pre-2015 productions (checked my image count for more accurate numbers)

I'm looking at a 2 knife set: Schatt & Morgan File & Wire Series Deluxe Quart Barlow and File & Wire Series Deluxe Pint Barlow. Sounds like thing have been hit or miss with these kind of knives. Does anybody have any experience with either of the knives in this set. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Now I'm looking at 3 different sets including the one above (they are from a raffle):

1) Schatt & Morgan File & Wire Series Deluxe Quart Barlow PLUS File & Wire Series Deluxe Pint Barlow
2) Queen Stag Bone Folding Hunter PLUS Limited Edition 1/100 Sheffield Jack
3) Queen City Limited Production Sway Belly Trapper 1 of 300 PLUS Limited Edition 1/100 Sheffield Jack

Any opinions on any of these would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

The S&M may be ATS34 and is usually overall higher quality and the design is a little more fancy than Queen. I don't know much about Queen City other than they were a SFO and are usually in 1095. The ones I have seen are OK, but not S&M level.

Thank you, brownshoe, for the helpful response. Somehow I unintentionally passed this up. Once I saw it, I had to have it.

Not traditional knives. I can't for the life of me figure out why this belongs here.
