What's the proper sheath for this 124

I think it's an in-house one-off knife made as a personally knife.
Dave did you get it off eBay?

Plumberdv, Do you have some sort of setup where you take pictures. Also what type of camera do you use.

I don't use any special setup Ed. I just have a little table that's sitting on my front porch that I put my background cloth on. I hand hold the camera and sometimes when I'm a little shaky, they don't come out as sharp as they should. I use a several year old Konica/Minolta DiMage Z5 camera that's a five megapixel. It's like a small single lens reflex but you can't change lenses. I like it better than my little 12 megapixel compact camera because you look through the lens and not at a screen on the back of the camera. It has macro and super macro settings for closeups and I nearly always use the super macro setting.

Your stag has the new choil/ricasso pattern. But the problem child is something different all together. A mystery knife.

Btw, I'm familiar with the seller in your link. I've even talked to him on the phone. He's a "wheeler-dealer" so take that for what its worth.

I'm looking at the difference in size of the aluminum pommel. Does this one match the size and shape of a pommel say from a 105?
I think I've seen that guard for sale on a popular knifemakers site. I'll check that shortly. I'm really starting to think this is a project knife. The fact it didn't come with a factory sheath may be telling as well.

Edit: Nope I was wrong about seeing that guard. Well a mystery knife.

Dave, why don't you send an email to avarilman and ask him straight out "Who made the knife." I suspect he knows.

If I had to guess, which I am, I would think it is a newer knife with older handles.

Jerry are you familiar with that guard?
What do you think about the width of the blade? Its much thinner.
Also that pommel looks like one from a 118 or something similar.

Interesting knife.

Darn, the one on the right is really a brain fry for us all . I like several of you guys reasoning on that knife but we are all just speculating . Wish somebody would chime in that knows what the scoop is on that knife . DM

Its ricasso is totally different to the point of ... I've not seen one of those . The handle and blade are like my 1973 model . DM

I am not familiar with the guard. I went back and looked at all my micarta handled 124s, I have several and none have that guard. And I agree with you on the blade and pommel.

Look closely David; I think you'll notice the dimesions of the Dave's "Interesting" knife to be more petite are all respects.

Question for the group: Where the 124 blades hand ground?

If so could the issues around the grind/choil length be related to a training effort?

It isn't even really close to a 118. Here's a picture of the pommel of the 124 next to the pommel of a 118.

The closest thing I can find to it is the 119/120's but even then they would have had to been split into two sides and they have a slightly different shape.

OK, I'll toss this in. I actually just noticed this and took this picture showing what appears to be two pins holding the guard in place. Could be I've got something that was cobbled together by some home knife smith or something that was done by someone who works for Buck in their shop. Who knows? The speckles are tiny rain drops in case you were wondering. It's misting rain here and I had to get real close to the edge of the porch to get any light.

On post 54 the back of your blade appears to have the early 122/124 serrations must be the picture.
