You can go back to the Benchmade days and their version of the CQC-7, before EKI was ever formed. That one design IMHO is what made Emerson a household name in the knife world.

I'd say the same first two that I got in 2006: Commander and CQC-7BW. I have others but personally those two are still the quintessential Emerson folders.
 
My 7 was my first and most (and hardest) used. I've since acquired a Patriot, 2 Commanders, an SOCFK, a custom Tiger, an EDC-2, as well as the ZT/Emerson 0620 and 0620CF. as much as i love all the other ones, i usually gravitate towards my 7 when i leave my home.

To me, it's a perfect balance of size, weight, ergonomics, ease of sharpening, and it's tougher than i need it to be.

I fully utilize both sharpened edges of the tanto blade. One for scraping all kinds of junk, and the other for all cutting tasks.

CQC-7.

Sharpening straight edges one one side is very easy for someone who kinda sucks at sharpening like me.

When I picture emerson, personally the two knives that instantly come to mind are the cqc 7 and commander. I feel those are the flag ship emersons. Others are great too, and I could be wrong, but that's my opinion. I also owned a commander and currently only own a cqc7 and gentleman jim.
