What's the strangest thing you ever caught ?

reeled up a 4 inch diameter power line once... I was just hoping it wasn't a body. soon as I realized it was a power line (unmarked) I cut the fishing line.

A seagull, no wait, giant squid, for bait.

I caught a sea horse at the mouth of an inlet one time. I realed my line in to check my bait and when i held my hook up to see what my bait was like i realized it was a little black and white sea horse. It was hooked on one of its scales on its belly. Held it in my hand and it wrapped its tail around my finger and blew some bubbles out its mouth. Let it go and it just floated off. Strange but cool. :D

hung a canada goose.. i was aiming for a spot over a rock, she just happened to be there on the nest on the back side of a rock. didnt see her till she took off.. about half way through the cove i had to cut the line. those geese are remarkably strong. dang near pulled me off the boat. i hate canada geese.

Went fishing tonight with a buddy and caught several rock fish, a few bullheads and one of these:

The thing fought pretty good. It was about 2 feet long and probably 7 to 10lbs. And it started to poop out its guts while we were trying to get a pic of it. Pics turned out really bad. It was dark and the fish wouldn't stop flopping around. I guess they're kind of difficult to catch and are pretty worthless for food. I read up on them when I got home and apparently the compose 80% of the fish (by weight) in the puget sound, but very few people actually catch them, as they generally dig for shellfish.

Here's a link to a video of them I found.

When I was younger I had a hit on a lure, and shortly after it felt like the hook had been spit and hooked on a stump/log. In my younger days I assumed the stronger the line the better, so it was rigged up with 30lb. braided line. After about 10 minutes of pulling and feeling something slowly come to shore, I pulled out a 25 lb. snapping turtle that had almost bit my pickerel in half.

One time in Maine while fishing for pollock (also when I was much younger), I pulled up a longhorned sculpin. I had never heard of or seen anything like it, so it was a little bit surprising.

Wow, some of these are incredible....the most intersting thing I've ever caught was a beaver.....I had a line out and he swam over it and it snagged him.....lots of snakes and turtles though

I caught an anchor once.

Fishing Perdido Pass down on the Gulf, my buddy told me to drop anchor and so I did. I noticed that the current was pulling us out and that the anchor rope was singing out of the front hold. I relayed said condition to him and he (in somewhat panicked voice) yelled for me to tie it off. :D I grabbed the rope right about the time it was about to leave the boat for good, and I was promptly yanked over the bow and into the water. Given the choice between swimming or being tugged under by current, I let go of the rope. Gave the fishermen over on the jetties a good show. :D

No anchor meant no fishing, so after I swam back aboard, we tied on heavy weights and large treble hooks and started casting across the pass in the general vicinity we'd lost the anchor rig. We had no luck until I finally decided to lengthen the leader attached to my hook. First cast after that, I snagged the anchor line, and we were able to retrieve everything. That was about $100 or more in anchor and rope, so it was a pretty good catch. :p

I have caught all manner of strange beasts. Eel, puffer fish, sting rays, remora, skates, etc. down on the Gulf.

I call those sea robins. I've caught them in the Gulf as well.

As far as freshwater, gar are always fun to catch, but not to take off. I too have caught a crawfish or two. I've never caught a bowfin, but I was with my uncle once when he caught one.
