What's the toughest NORMAL stuff to cut?

Plastic or nylon zip-ties!

They will dull your knife like crazy.

that's what I'M talking about! we use about 1200 of the in our trade-show setup at work. it's a bear. of course we use wire cutters to cut them when we break down but there always one or two that you somehow need to cut when not wire cutters are around.

Spyderedge knives pop those right off :)

i think I'll go with the blister packs since it's so easy to slip and cut yourself. That or a bagel (don't ask).

Well, here are two more:

Week old French bread
Shrink wrap, you think its so easy because its just layers of thin plastic, but if you dont have a sharp knife its going to take you forever!

Midgets. Damn hard to cut them little buggers... they squirm alot and are pretty strong for their size. ;)

those heavy duty bags some cat and dog foods come in, with the heavy paper and the strong twine stitching...

That twine stitching is supposed to unravel if you pull at the correct loose end.

Plastic blister packaging is much easier to cut with scissors.

But with a knife - as already suggested - use the knife blade point to start the cut near the edge inside the weld, and slide the blade in to cut -

This is always much better done when calmly sitting down to avoid the blade slipping and cutting oneself - ie: wait until back in the car and sitting down -

a sure way of messing up is attempting to open the package with a knife whilest walking from the shop.

yes, I too recall talking about this about a month ago....
here's the link to that thread -

haha... doh!!!

even tho i feel like a jackass, i might still have to use the knife to cut it, rather than unravel the twine and rip on the perforations... you understand, right? ;)
