What's the truth about the Manix?

Just got my Manix. What a great blade. Especially since Spyderco has nothing else like it. Among all the Calys, Natives, Delicas, Scorpius, etc. nothing as thick, big, wide, strong as the Manix, not even the Millie. There's got to be a ZDP Manix or something to replace it. Who knows about this? Give it up.

Only those in the company know. It is one of the best knives ever made so if a replacement comes out of it, it'll be well thought out and well engineered. Even then there will be some grumbling.

I can't imagine a "new manix", "manix classic" debacle happening with spyderco. It is possible however they weren't selling enough to sustain production despite it's fanbase. It's built so well it takes a long time to wear them out. Like that gum commercial where they made gum so good nobody ever buys another. The first piece just lasts and lasts. Joe

I think the Manix is to Spyderco what the 110 is to Buck.
Innovation and the latest thing are well and fine but i think a certain stable full of classic old faithfuls should also be maintained and kept in production. But hey its not my company.
However Spyderco is a very very smart company so i'm sure (fingers crossed) there will be a next gen Manix.

I think the Manix was designed to address a trend in the industry for overbuilt, heavy duty, bulletproof knives, and they did it very well. It's not a purpose built SD knife from what I've read, unlike the Chinook (another bull of a folder), which is a great EDC that has many applications for SD. Obviously interest in the knife wasn't enough to continue production. I don't own one for two reasons, If I want a heavy duty knife, though it's not like I need one, I carry my Strider SnG Tanto, for a lighter weight more utility specific knife I carry a Spyderco SE Endura.
Cheers,
Rob
