I never understood this one. It takes everything that people liked about mora and threw those features out for something akin to a gerber only more expensive.

I'd rather see you evaluate Garber from a clean slate instead of comparisons. The Garber is more expensive than traditional Moras .Of course but ask - when you add up all the features of the Garber is it worth $ 80 ??. Any way I have both and keeping both . The original makes a great lender ..or beginner's knife. The Garber for the more experienced and needing more features.

People said something similar about the Corvette when it first appeared.

At that point in time car companies had clearly define market niche's, and Chevrolet was the every day mans plain and inexpensive ride. Kinda like what Mora is to knives today. Then out pops the Vette, and wham! everything changed for Chevy. Now they had a top-tier product that allowed them to compete in a total different product category. Kinda like what the Garberg did for Mora. Sometimes coming out with an upscale item works well for a company known for inexpensive products.

I'm interested and might possibly buy one. I really don't get all the negative flak Mora gets over this knife. For years people have complained that Mora only uses 1095 or Sandvik 12C27, the Garberg is using Sandvik 14C28. Another big criticism has been the use of partial tangs or stick tangs, the Garberg has a full tang. So Mora offers the Garberg in an upgraded steel with a full tang, now the complaints are that it's too expensive and doesn't cut any better than the cheaper Moras.

If the BB is too heavy duty for your needs than the Garberg isn't the knife for you. It's designed more for the person who feels the opposite really.

I agree. That's why I haven't bought it. The collector in me wants it simply because it's a Mora that I don't have.

I have a Enzo Trapper in a zero scandi
Been using it for years
.
A superb knife with a fully tested design with five different steels to choose from

Do not see what this expensive Mora offers

Older thread, but I had a Garberg so thought I'd add. I picked it up when it was running around $50 or so. I found it too thick for my tastes. Steel is great though.

Scandi is an odd bird. It has to be just the right blade stock thickness to grind height to really work. Not many knives really do the Scandi grind right. The current Enzo's come to mind, and some others I've used as well. The Mora Companion does it really well IMO. Just about ideal ratio and works great. Mora's SS is fantastic and though just a tad harder to sharpen than their carbon, worth the stain corrosion resistance to me.

The SS they use in the Garberg is even better than their normal SS, and also somewhat harder to sharpen.

I actually prefer the Companions to just about anything else they make, but I am using a Kansbol right now and am liking it so far.
