thanks Stacy. i called the guy when he told me to call him and he never answered. ive tried to get ahold of him multiple times with no success. im going to have to start looking for someone else to teach me how to weld.

Before you can be professional you have to look and act professional. I gotta hand it to you, you're giving it your best shot. Practice and share what you do, take advice from the "old dogs", and implement what you learn. If you do that you'll do well and you'll be happy with yourself. Good goin Squee.

If you really want to learn to weld, get in touch with the union house's of the Boilermakers, Pipe Fitters or Steam Fitters.

At this time in the United States, and around the Industrialized world, in fact, most young people want to be in computer realated types of careers, or other types of work that does not involve physical labor.

This trend has caused a great shortage in workers of steel.

As a member of the American Welding Society, I often get mail that specifically addressrs this trend.

That being said, getting in touch with one of the above mentioned unions, you should be able to find your way into one of them and become an apprentice.

As the demand for skilled tradesmen becomes greater, because the good ones are getting harder to find, the ability for these trades people to command more $$MONEY$$ increases.

I have been in the steel industry for over 33 years, and I started as a welder. Since those days I've had quite a few other titles with different Hard Hats. But at the heart of it all I'm still a welder, and proud of it

So Jake, if you really want to be in the steel trades, research apprenticeships with the unions, and get your Butt into one of them, they will be your best education in steel ;) .

And I haven't been a union guy since 1981. I know what I see, and I inspect a lot of peoples welds. Some people think they are welders, but that's where it stops.

Because of the education the union apprentices get (I believe they're still on the clock getting payed, while they're in the metalurgy class  ), they know the theory of what's going on in the weld puddle, that coupeled with hands on experience, usually lends itself to producing a better product.

Oh by the was, being a pipe man myself, I forgot about Ironworkers or Steelworkers.

And it's most excellent when you can build your own tools for the smithy, etc. etc. etc.

i actually talked to the guy today and he told me what happened. he still wants me to work for him. hes just waiting for alot of this rain to go away. hes got two big jobs lined up. ill look into the unions later on. i just dont know if there are any in my area and i dont want to have to travel a very long distance to goto work. this guy is local so its easier. thanks for the info Uncle BBBB Beaver.

No...not shure how its going to work out atm. >< But it is summer here so I have to be happy. On the way to the park after grinding out a blade this morning.
