What's the worst thing about knife collecting?

The worst part for me is when someone is new to knives is dead set on buying a "cool" looking knife like a cheap folding dagger and won't let me talk them out of it and getting something much more useful for the same price. I hate these situations because it's a "Been there. Done that." moment for me and I know that they won't be pleased.

I bought my Benchmade 940 like literally 2 days before the 300SN came out.

I dunno, I prefer the 940 to the 300SN myself, so it doesn't seem like that bad a scenario for you. The 940 is a classic, thinner, lighter and more blade at the same time when compared to a 300SN. Also, unless you hate the purple backspacer I think it's a much nicer looking knife as well, myself. Then again, I may have unusual tastes--in addition to not thinking much of how the 300SN looks, I also think another forum favorite, the Southard, looks fugly as well . . .

I haven't run into a worst thing about knife collecting, beyond spending too much money and now being as annoyed by stupid knife laws as I am by stupid gun laws.

Definitely not having enough money to buy all the ones you want. ESPECIALLY if you have other hobbies. I definitely find knives the most addicting out of any hobby I've been into- I really don't see an end to it either. A 'black hole' no doubt, as steel130 said.

Dropping coin on knives I don't use that much, if all.
But I still like them and have a good time with my son and our small collection. Totally worth it.

The worse thing about knife collecting for me is having the money for the knife I want but I can't buy it because it's not available for sale.

The few instances when you buy off of a private owner that calls a turd like new or mint. Gotta quit fallin for that blurry 1 megapixel crap, must,,,,resist.

The fact that I do not currently have a credit card, so cannot buy knives online unless I get a gift card.

The simple fact of being able to easily buy knives on credit can be tough on you. You'd better have plenty of will-power and be able to control your emotions. Pretty soon you're trying to find stuff to sell so that you can pay your darned credit-card bill. That part is scary and not fun at all.
I know about this part.

I wouldn't say I have an addiction to knives, I keep my collection to 10 or under. Sell or Gift what I don't like. The most annoying thing is when people find out I like knives...they bring me Piece of Turd gas station/WallyWorld specials for $3.99. I have absolutely no desire for this kind of thing, but have difficulty rejecting the gift gracefully.

For me, that is one of the best things. I really like the process of saving up for something of value. I appreciate it so much more when it does arrive. Knife collecting and using is a journey.

A good point!

It works for me but I'm more an instant gratification kind of guy. ;)

Not having hair on my left arm. Non knife people figure I have a disease.

Never being satisfied with what I have. Must have another, to fill the craving.

That insatiable itch to always want another knife when I know that I really don't need as many as I already have.
