I've always liked the look and feel of folders with this style of.. lock.

When the studs (whether they are used for deployment or not) act as the "stop", in lieu of a stop pin mounted on the back.

Perhaps the most recognized knife utilizing this is the CRK Umnumzaan.

Hinderer also utilizes this style frequently..

So surely it must have a name?!

These are all Darrel Ralph designs. Top knife (CUDA MAXX) has Camillus factory scales and a custom 5 1/2” blades. Middle (MADD MAXX) is a custom with a 9” blade. Bottom (MADD MAXX) is a custom with a 7” blade.
Thank you!

Spyderco subhilt,. Microtech Socom's use stud stops as well....Sure there are many more!!!!

Guess this explains why I've never come across an agreed upon technical term for it..

I appreciate all the input yous guys.

thumbstud ?
official name:
"smallbuttonthatisusedtoopenthebladewiththethumbandwhichoccasionallyservestolockthebladeintheopenposition!"
Clearly, you've misspelled it!

I'm not seeing 'x' or 'z'. Yes, they are silent, missing nonetheless!

🙃

On the umnumzaan it is a thumb stud serving dual purpose as a stop pin
On other knives it could just be a thumb stud or even just a stop pin(as in the Strider SnG),
