What's time and temperature for A2 Tool Steel?

Danbo...that's what I thought! Dumb question then, how does someone find out the as quenched hardness of steel then? :D

When doing an experimental ,or test, blade, all sorts of tests may done. Many are called destructive tests, such as bending and breaking a blade. Most all of these tests are not the recommended real world use of the blades. Testing for as quenched hardness is done to find the level of transformation and to help calculate the tempering temp. The blade can crack or break under the penetrator load. The test is done on the tang,BTW.

With a good blade (one you want to keep) , a piece of the same steel can be heat treated along with the blade. This gives a test sample to use.
