What's up for the weekend?

My days off are Monday and Tuesday. It's been that way for 20+ years.
But this sat.,sun. I plan on finishing my first knife!! Woo Hoo!! Then shipping it off to Mate Shade, my name in the knife in the hat.

So far.....

I had a doe go into labor around 6:30. She delivered one dead kid and then stopped pushing but appeared in trouble. Ms Hollowdweller and I worked with her for about 2 hours to get the other dead kid out. Ms Hollowdweller got it untangled and then I literally had to wrap a towel around what was hanging out and put my foot on the does hocks and pull with all my might to get it out. Don't know why they were dead. One was a mummy, died a long time ago. Could have got hammered by one of the other goats. Hoping the doe is gonna make it. I thought she was gonna go in shock but she got up and got her drinking molasses water. Hate it, but have to wait till Mon to get some penicillin for her when the Feed Store opens. Always like to give them a shot when we've been up to our elbows in their uterus ;)

Went out to the gunstore and got my Ruger Mark 1 out of layaway.

Then some friends came over and we filled up 2 trucks with goat manure for their garden.

After that I shot the Ruger. It's got a 6 7/8" barrell and shoots awesomely good. I followed up with my CZ 52 and it took me a while to hit good with it. Guess the Ruger spoiled me. Cranked 100 rounds thru each and then got Ms Hollowdweller shooting it.

Then it was evening and we took a nap and just woke up and it's after 10 and I am late to milk and also to feed 2 other kids that were born last Sunday!

Hope tomorrow is as eventful but it's supposed to rain :(

at the Ethnographic Edged Weapons Seminar and the Balitmore Antique Arms Show. Got two really neat 19th century tribal swords. Parang Nabour, from the Sea Dayaks and an 18th century pirah kaetta from Ceylon, 18th century. Never seen or even heard of a pirah kaetta before. Will post some pics when we get home to Atlanta.

First trip Anne and I have taken in a while. It will be good to get home. Tired now, two hours waiting in line this morning for the show to open.

Also spent some time getting to know people we only knew from the EEW forum.

John Powell gave a wonderful talk on Kora. He really is a world-class guy on khuks and kora. A real pleasure.

Took along a new notebook computer that has a wireless internet connection. Just turn it on and it finds the wireless router at the Ramada.

Tehcnology is wonderfull. Something called a "Wi-Fi." Amazing.

Got any pics of that? I 'd love to see.

Sorry to hear about those babies, hollowdweller.
For the most part, y'all are having more fun than me this weekend,
accounting research for school (blah), taxes for family, taxes for friends,
playing with kiddies, working out a little bit, reading more homework,
doing some work for work at home, dreaming of khuk's and guinness stouts.

Hollow,

I'd love to talk to you about raising goats, sometime. Some years ago- before 9-11 encouraged me to join the Army- I was planning on moving to Alaska, and thought about having a few goats up there for milk. Mm...goat cheese...

Really sorry about the dead kids. :(

John,

Fess up.

The Goats were to be for companionship right?

without getting ribald, a few goats around would be good, wouldn't it? Or are goats the kind of animals you have live Waaaaaay out from the house?

You got me.

Actually, despite my capitalist pig oppressor leanings, I tend to gravitate toward a healthy, holistic approach. I'd love to be able to make enough cheese to be able to sell some, in addition to what I (and family?) might personally use.
