Point was more along the lines that it did very well at what it was designed for, as did the kukri, although the kukri could do the job of the leuku, albeit not as well, but the opposite was not true.
All this to say that I'm sticking to my philosophy that if I'm going to do chopping, I'm better off bringing a tool designed for it. Plus the fact that the large knife IS useful, even when not used as a chopper (the puukko would have sucked at clearing palmetto stalks and brush).
As an aside, the leuku worked just as well as a RAT-7 and they are nearly identical in size, the leuku only marginally thinner, and has a blade profile that is acutally a bit better for chopping. Some consider the RAT-7 to be a chopper (although I think of the full grind being a slicer, which is definitely is), which is why I brought it up.
