What's up with Amazon refusing to send me knives?

Okay, to wrap this up, what brought this about was I wanted to buy a knife that was sold by a company in Europe. I don't remember the brand now, just that I could not buy it from their web site directly. The prices were all in either Euros or the local currency, shipping wasn't available to the US, and their US presence was all through Amazon. I emailed that company, but never received an answer, so I decided it wasn't worth the trouble.
After that, I noticed that Amazon would not sell me any knife, except simple slip joint knives, so I assume that is something with the legality of shipping in the US. Amazon is their own shipping company, so there isn't a alternative way, like UPS.
This isn't that much of a problem because most well-known brands are available from the usual knife dealers. But, even there, I have run into some restrictions. Many will not sell an automatic knife to someone in NY. Others will if you fill out a form stating that you are a veteran, active military, law enforcement, or first responder. Maybe there are other, smaller, dealers who don't ask questions.
Finding a friend to act as a proxy, or getting a PO Box out of state would work, but it's just not that important.
But getting a particular knife isn't that important, so I'll just do without.
Thanks for the good discussion, but I'm going to bow out now. I think the best answer was to work towards realistic knife laws.

I have heard similar complaints from those living in rural NY state. Unfortunately, most of the state’s population lives in the inner city. This is similar to the Chicago and Illinois laws. Those in the cities drive the laws for the state. Just know that your elected officials are keeping you safe, right? 🤨
