Can anybody tell me what is up with Damascus Steel Supply in Mumbai, India? They are not answereing e-mails, the owners/employees seem to be chronically sick or have members of their family dying, and they don't seem to be doing business with anybody. It's been this way for over a year. Their merchandise is nice, but they don't seem to want to actually sell it! Does anybody have a contact with them other than the usual ? It seems to me that their excuses are just that...excuses. Nobody could have this much personal trouble all at once. Too much coincidence.

My wife went over to Mumbai a few years ago to look them and Ancient Arms up. DSS supply all the knifemakers in Mumbai. Actually it's illegal to sell knives in India apart from as souvenirs, that's why very few of them are supplied with an edge and also why they don't particularly care what steel goes into their 'mascus.
I also suspect that the reputation they've gained for saying one type of steel is used when it's plainly not has provided people with reason not to trust (or buy)
Damascus from the Indian sub-continent. I would only buy it for bolsters etc. as the patterns they do are really good.
It always astonished me that given the amount of work and finishing that goes on with some of their knives and steels,
using an unknown raw material costing only pennies less than the proper stuff seems like such a waste of effort.

That is not what I asked. I was not looking for a comment on the quality of their damascus, I was looking for info on what is going on with their business practices. Cheap shots at the quality of their damacus under the guise of commenting on a forum just wastes peoples time. Also your response is inarticulate and inconsistant. I can reach my own conclusions about the quality of their product, thank you; I want to know why they are so inconsistant with their sales practices. Unless you have facts pertinent to my actual question, don't respond.

wow, your not going to get any responses that are of value acting like that, This is a public forum and Parbajtor is %100 correct in his response.

I am of no value to this thread because I don't get any damascus out of India any more cause quite frankly its junk blade steel.

on a side note if you cant get in contact with them, there's plenty of nice USA damascus makers, look them up.

Do you people have trouble focusing , or what? Parbajtor did not address any of my questions and seems to think that taking cheap shots at other peoples products is a way to make his seem better. He obviously has a vested interest in people buying his products instead of anybody elses. BUT THAT IS NOT THE POINT ! I posted a thread in order to find out about why DSS seems to be inconsistant in their business practices. As I said; I can make up my own mind about their quality. I did NOT post this thread to start a debate about the quality of DSS damascus. Actually, I don't buy their damascus; I buy other products from them. I know about American damascus makers and I agree. I buy my billets from American makers. NOW... does anybody actually know any FACTS regarding DSS and why they are not responding to buy inquiries from their customers?? Or is this just a little clique of back patters wishing each other happy birthday and being uselessly non-sequitur?

I would recommend trying to be a bit more civil in your discourse. Maybe it's not the question you are asking, but more the way youare coming off. Insulting people isn't going to get you very far.

I have no experience with their business practices because I do not buy cheap materials.

Support the US economy and buy American made damascus.

Cheap damascus isn't good, good damascus isn't cheap.

I don't know how much experience or what connection you have personaly with the company or the product, but it would seem the company is probably failing.....

Whats wrong with you, people are responding to your O.P. and your answer back is pure negitive attitude. This forum is very community friendly, so make messages like that or dont at all.

If you are having problems with them responding to you i.e. you feel that they are full of unjustified excuses, then why do you do business with them? Seems more like venting frustrations vs. info gathering. Your original post isn't innocent and is somewhat biased (or slanderous), so if you wish people to draw their own conclusions about how DSS operates (whether it be with quality or communications), it might be wise to model that in your posted. BTW, you are starting off brilliantly on Bladeforums.

Guys,

Just an observation, but if you read the ops name and use the shortened form of Richard (dick), all will become clear. I suspect that this individual has no intention of participating civilly in our forum.

WELL... I see none of you are capable of an intelligent response. My mistake. I thought that I could get some information on a legit business when all I can see is people being assholes and jerking off jingoistic attitudes. NOT ONE of you gave any information I can use as far as doing business with DSS. Go play your little reindeer games and pretend that you are actually contributing to knife knowledge. I can see the maturity level here is about on par with junior high. By the by... not a single one of you can produce a knife with the workmanship level of DSS for anywhere near the same price. Jealous much????

By the by also... I see that I'm the only one here who is using his real name. What are all of you hiding from? OH, THAT'S RIGHT, you're afraid that someone will figure out what assholes you actually are !!

Log me out ; this is a collosal waste of time !!

You can either act in an adult manner and get civil responses or you can continue the way you're going and get the response you're getting.
Along with infractions for profanity, trolling etc......

When a supplier gives you an answer to the question....That is the answer.

I'm sorry you are incapable of having a mature conversation with folks. You're bitterness is showing but then again I'll bet you are very proud of that aspect. Funny how your rude, cycnical, and insulting treatment of people here, then you have the nerve to say others are "jr. High" level? Right. Buh Bye.
