I was going to order some jigged bone scales today, and upon calling my regular supplier found that the price per pair has jumped from $9.00 to $15.50 per set! I then decided to check other knife supply outfits and found that their prices had increased to over $20 per set! What the heck is going on? I know for a fact that cows are not an endangered species.

I also learned that many of the knife supply outfits are substituting jigged camel bone when you order jigged bone. The last time I ordered jigged bone I got camel bone (which looks really nasty), and promptly returned it.

I can understand things going up somewhat, but over a 100% increase? Jeez.

Ed, didn't you hear??? The cows figured with the economy what it is, they need to squeeze as much green out of every leg bone they can, so they upped their prices. ;) :D

That is ridiculous! :grumpy:

The camel bone must depend greatly on the bone's location, as I have some camel that's really nice... very solid and dense. Weird!

Actually, cows may be on the endangered species list soon due to all of the CO2 and greenhouse gasses that they supposedly produce.

Holy Cow! It is Nick Wheeler! Dude! Where you been?

Sounds like all the suppliers figured out no one can afford to buy real stag anymore. So the suppliers say, let's get together and put the screws to the low man on the totem pole, again!!!!!!!!! :jerkit: :grumpy:

Ed, I just checked two of the suppliers and the most expensive I see is about $11.95 at Jantz and $9.60 at USA. That is up from the last ones I ordered though!

Those prices aren't for what I call Jigged bone......I checked those sites and what their selling for that price is camel bone. The stuff I'm talking about is like Nick said....the dyed/jigged cow bone... like pictured here on #s 7, 8, and 9.
I couldn't find it listed on Jantz or US, and K&G and Texas have it priced at over $20 per pair.

I generally order my Jigged Bone from Tru-Grit, but the last time I ordered we had a fiasco because they sent me jigged/dyed camel bone, and it looked nothing like the jigged cow bone....in fact to me it looked cheesy and cheap. When I contacted them about it, they were super nice and sent me the real McCoy, but that was just before the blade show, and now the price has nearly doubled?
I just hate having to raise the prices on my knives (especially EBKs) in order to make up for the cost increase in materials.......Lord knows that if I don't like it, customers sure aren't.

Ed, I sure like that amber dyed on #7. Have you tried Mother of Pearl Co. (Culpeppers)?
I want to jig my own and send it to them for the dye job. I think it costs about $25 per pound to dye my stuff. Ive sent them plenty of stag and elk with beautiful results. Its only money.

It is all part of trickle down economics--I herd some bone-headed politicians were playing with the notion of a fart tax for cows because of the gas that they produce..The dairy people here in Colorado are dropping like flies due to the low price of milk--prime milk producing cows are being turned into burger --I know lets invent a fart tax --jeez is right give me a break---Steve
