What's up with the 4Max??

To be 100% clear I (demko knives) am not producing the 4MAX. The confusion is I am repairing any returned 4MAX knives by only dissembling and installing the new rocker from our vendor.

Good on you Andrew; the knives will be in good hands. As for my 4 Max, it has the best fit and finish of any production knife I have had. I hope Cold Steel is planning a version of the AD10, and maybe one with some grippier G10 too. More custom classics can only be a good thing.

For those of us getting the knives repaired, we now can truthfully say that our knives were hand assembled by Andrew Demko himself!

I received notice from KC that my 4-MAX pre-order was being shipped to me today. I have a felling I won't have it for long before shipping it back out for repair.

I'm holding off at this point. If they go back to the original spec lock bar, I'll probably end up with one. If not, well...

I just ordered a Colossus II yesterday. Not as big and beefy as the Max, but still a honkin' knife and less than half the price. :thumbup:

I hope not. I pre-ordered one in October for a anticipated December release and happily it is being shipped on time. CS knows about the problem with the last batch so I am hoping they corrected it at the factory in this release.

I'm sure your Max will come back perfect, after it's little visit with Demko. I'm pretty confident CS won't let this proud lock bar issue stand, I just hope the factory is willing to step up their QC in response. I'm still drooling over the Max. :thumbup:

I just sent off my 4Max today.

I bit the bullet and sent it in right away. Actually after seeing you post and video, I made the decision to send it in, while I was still waiting for it from the dealer-if it had the lockbar issue. I mailed it to Cold Steel the day after I received it.

Have any other models dropped the notch on the lock bar release area? Seems odd the second batch of these are without it and no one at CS is addressing it.

yup, the lockbar is flush-- which is an improvement over defect-- but TriAD usually has that offset ground in...not sure how much the little dogleg will "enhance" the performance <probably no discernible difference>, but it's just one of those little Demko details I appreciate :thumbup:

If it ever bothers me enough, I'll have one custom ground in, then put the lockbar in my rock tumbler to re stone wash it.

I have my 4max in my pocket now it is big but I usually wear jeans or 511's and in those pants its not too bad. It is heavy, but the coolness of it is worth the weight. The blade is amazing and works really well for everything I have done with mine. Also mine had a proud lock bar I sent it to Cold Steel and they got it back to me quite promptly.
