Whats up with the Scorpius?

I have not been in this neck of the wooks in a while, but I recently got the urge to buy another spydie.

I bought a scorpius a while back, I and I liked everything except the SE. I traded it for something else, but since missed it. I bought one this morning. I tried to buy one from a dealer, but I never got rsponce so I bought a used one from a member of the forum,

I scrolled through the pics of the spydies and not one pic of the scorpius. I don't even read much about it. Is it that nobody likes them? Is that why they are DCing them? I plan on using my scorpius as one of my EDC. Does anyone else EDC a scorpius?

Thanks,
John

It's not necessarily a sign of unpopularity - quite a few models are discontinued after a few years.

I like it well enough myself...... however the extended butt, plus the style of clip used, plus the steel finish of the handles gives it a rather high profile when carried.

I traded mine off. I loved the blade shape and the handle wasn't too bad, but it was a bit large for my hands. I also did not like the clip. It rode too high in my pocket, and it was rather uncomfortable as well. The clip and pocket discomfort did it in for me.

A plain-edge Scorpius was part of my EDC rotation for a couple of years. It's a great knife and I still have it. I might try to pick up another one though at some point before they become too scarce.

The shape of the Scorpius' handle is pretty unusual. I personally like it a lot, but I can easily see why others might not. Stainless steel handles in general can also be a love or hate thing; some people probably weren't interested in the knife because it was only offered in SS handles.

It's not surprising to me that the Scorpius wasn't more popular, but I thought it might at least develop a cult following.

I like the shape of the handle, and think it fits good in my hand. These knives are so thin, some times I remove the clip and put the knife in my wallet in case I forget to grab my EDC (which is not often). The very first time I tried one out was a few years ago on a pass around. I also had the chance to try out a Police. The PE of the scorpius just sails through cardboard. Spyderco sure knows how to grind a knife blade.

Long live the scorpious!!!! I love this knife, its very thin in the pocket, and its edge was crazy sharp out of the box (even for a spyder). That being said, I do find that when I actually use the knife to cut I always end up choking up on the handle and placing my trigger finger in the cut out coil in the blade...very nice for precise cutting, with regular grip the knife does tend to feel slippery and prone to turning in your hand (i have large hands). Still I love the knife and carry it often.

I love the Scorpius, too, and it is sad that it didn't get the attention it deserved. It may be that its shape isn't very appealing when taking a quick look at it in the catalog, but you just have to hold and use it to appreciate it immerdiately (that's ME, of course :-)

It is a sleeper and may stay it, but those who own one know how great this knife is ;)

As it happens, I just spent a few hours (watching LOST) playing around with my Scorpius :D It just feels great in the hand; it just fits.

Long live the scorpious!!!!

Very true.
