What's up with the whittlers?

Lots of traditional knives sold by both BF sponsers dealers and other in a pattern suitable for whittling. Take a look at Case, Great Eastern Cutlery, Buck, Queen, Canal Street Cutlery, and even Kabar. As a starter, Knives Ship Free carries a diverse line of the better knives. Try AG Russell, and others... The Great Eastern Cutlery manufactured knives (a couple different brands) are very good and my favorite traditionals. Of the inexpensive, as in very inexpensive, take a look at Rough Rider knives.

Thanks 22, but I am not looking for a knife to whittle with, I just love the splitback whittler pattern!

Derrick at KnivesShipFree (a BF dealer) typically has a nice selection of whittlers. To wit, this is my Northwoods Norfolk Whittler (split-back) in Elephant Ivory:

Another recommendation for KSF Northwoods folders.

Wow, those Northwoods are stunning! I never thought I was a fan of the Whittler pattern until now. I especially love that elephant ivory.

Check out flexcut. They have a few different models with 2 to 6 blades. Very handy tool. Sharp as he'll plus comes with a strop, compound, and leather sheath

I ordered a Tidioute Wharnecliffe Geppetto in Black Buffalo Horn, a Northwoods Norfolk in Purple Camel Bone, and a Tidioute Wharnecliffe Executive Whittler in Forest Moss Jigged Bone, this week.

Can't wait to get them in!

MMM, whittlers are rare-ish in comparison to other patterns. The other guys have given you the right nod though, there are stacks of BF dealers and they will set you right. I like the whittler too but at current am going through a barlow stage so I can't really give many recommendations but most brands produce a nice model if you look hard enough. Are there any specific brands you are after or not?

I think the other part of the equation is that a well-done split-back is one of the harder patterns to pull off well. Perfect examples are rare.
