What's up with this? Newbie question

I started cutting in this bevel today, using files, and this side was all wavy and felt much different. Did I screw it up somehow getting it to hot and that is grain growth of the metal or something? I used a bench grinder some to rough the profile close but tried not to get it to hot and had water I was dunking it in. Thanks for looking.

It's just the pattern the file leaves when it cuts.

Looks to me like it's just the marks left from the file cutting it.

Looks like you were draw filing in the same direction as the file's teeth. Next time, flip the file over and use the other side, so that the teeth are facing the opposite direct, or simply rotate the face of the file 45 degrees or so.

If that is the case I will feel like an idiot but its not doing that all over. It has not done it on other knies I have done.
