Just looked at the new design and I must say, it's looking mighty stale.

Also why the alphabet metal instead of CPM3V, S30V or any of a myriad of nicer choices than the chinese stuff (not Chinese; Swedish and evidently better than I thought, initially).

I thought the whole idea of ZT was to take the Kershaw stuff to the next level?

I am specifically talking about the 0160.

Am I missing something, I know it might just be personal preference but is that steel in the same league with the others they have been using?

14C28N is not chinese. It's from Sandvik (Sweden)

Sandvik 14c28 is a swedish steel which I believe was produced specifically for use by Kershaw. It's a pretty long way from the the junk chinese alphabet steels, imho - very good quality stuff. Probably not as good as S30V and other 'super steels' for most people, but good stuff nonetheless.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it's going to perform in big fixed blades like the new RJ martin collaboration. I've never tried it in anything but folders.

So more like a 440c, AUS 8a kind of steel? Interesting, still not into the knife, but with competition from Benchmade and the like, it should be interesting to hear the comparisons.

I guess I'll have to handle it first...fruggly at first glance.
I understand 1/8th blade stock was used in this knife? Or am I thinking of the other new fixed blade that's coming out this year that looks a lot like the Gerber/Reeves collab?

Yeah, I'd say that's a fair comparison. I've heard of folks who like it as much as VG10, but I'd say it's pretty similar to 440c, although I've found it will hold a finer edge for longer.

I'm not a big fan of the looks of that particular fixed blade, but I really like this design (same steel).

Yeah, thats the Martin collaboration, right? I like the other one the 0550 with Hinderers design, but some of them are just not my speed. I really loved the Mudd knife, 0300's, 0200, basically all the Onion/Strider stuff...But this new batch...not so much.

I have one of those on the way. Hopefully it's in by tomorrow.

I've got to agree with ZZ and DM. The ZT 0160 doesn't do much for me. I wouldn't exactly call it an inspired design.

The handle of the 0160 isn't exactly consistent with the lines of the blade, but either way it matters little to me since I'm getting the 0170.

I would like to see a downscaled 0170 though with a 4.5" blade. With the exception of the dagger, these are the only nonrecurve ZT fixed blades out now.

Apec, can you do a little review on the knife when it comes in?

Instead of a tactical puuko, it kind of reminds me of a tactical steak knife, no offense intended to the awesome American Kami model of the same name.

I am getting at ZT0170 as soon as I got the money, on the other hand the ZT0160 looks absolutely terrible IMO, Kinda like a tactical bushcraft knife. :p
