What's up with ZT? Does every knife they put out have to be a flipper?

I like Zt knives pretty good. Maybe they dont want to have to pay to use the spidy hole or if they need the "thumb studs" as blade stops.

On a side note, why do some of you have to turn every thread into an argument. So you can "deploy" your Knife faster "for emergencies". How often is that necessary? Chill out and don't make everything some show off competition. My knives are all tuned to open slow and smooth and after many years I have never found the need to trim my "knife deployment" time down from 1 second to point 7 seconds or wherever those times actually are. Either way, who cares.

OP best of luck finding the right knife. Maybe if you find a keeper you can have CM shave off that Flipper.

Because it'd be boring as hell if we all agreed all the time. ;)

CM can shave off the flipper and add nail-nicks. An overbuilt gentleman's folder on bearings that we can send to Apostle P and listen to him ramble in annoyance for 30 minutes.

The 0700 can be opened with both flipper and thumb studs. :)

I can also open my 0562 with the blade stoppers ;)

Fix blades deploy faster - flame on!

...Pointing out that you want X feature on your knives is feedback for the manufacturer. Particularly when you do it on the largest knife forum on the internet and one that we absolutely know manufacturers pay attention to. That's one of the best ways to judge demand and market preference.

Point taken, and I suppose that forum commentary such as this thread does influence makers to broaden their offerings (again, no harm in that). Perhaps that's what's brought us Griptilians with Spydie holes and Spyders with Axis-like locks, and I do favor both those aforementioned. I like flippers both with and without thumb studs and have and use both. I never much favored ti fame locks until I bought a Sebenza, now I have several of those and few from other manufacturers. I also sold off some I didn't care for.

My point was that each manufacturer has its niche and what it's best at and if I want that sort of blade that's where I'll go to buy it. When I want something different I tend to look somewhere else.

On the other hand, the market does seem so dominated currently by ti-framelock flippers with lock bar inserts and over-travel stops, that threads such as this spring up naturally and may indeed provide valuable feedback for manufacturers.

I agree with this.

Well, it is not like you cannot use the thumb studs on ZT knives?

My 0900 has no thumbstuds. I like flippers, but I also like the physical feeling of opening my knife with a thumbstud and feeling the lock snap into place.

Yup! And I think one important position you and I share is that I don't want ZT to STOP making ti framelock flipper only bearing pivot knives, I just want some offerings that are more in line with my tastes. They may never do that, and I don't hold it against them for a second if they don't, but I'll sure as heck lobby for them to!

Heck, I plan on snapping up an Induction as soon as it hits the market. Not because I have any real need of a knife that size and in that steel, but because it's cool and I love that Kershaw went out of their comfort zone to make something interesting and different that falls more in line with my wants.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention the bearings that seemingly have to be in every knife now. Maybe six rows so the knife is so smooth and fat you can open it with no hands but have to hold it with two.

I can't recall who is making it.. but the thought of modular knives is a cool idea. I know of one knife where the end user can add/remove thumb disks/studs/flippers all on the same knife. That is the kind of idea that lets everyone get a semi custom blade that they have the option to tailor to how they feel like carrying that day.

Lionsteel TRE. :) I'm waiting for someone to do this with a pocket deployment method once Emerson's patent expires.

Well, around 3am when I was sewing a D-ring for carry onto one of my saps, I used my XM-18 with flipper to cut the thread.
Just think of all the extra life enjoyment I was able to get with that extra 0.3 seconds of free time it provided! :D

This is my thoughts as well. I prefer to control a blade at all times...no flipping, wrist snaps or loud "thwack" when opening a folder. The Spyderco hole works best for me.
