What's with all the weird blade shapes on "emergency survival knives"?

That's a blade shape that's pretty useful and even common in certain types of knives. It's not tacticool or totally useless without the use of training. What kind of knife is that? If it's a good price I might spring for it.
 
I bought a cheap karambit .... it needs a specialized hand and knowledge to fully utilize.

Funny how a now specialised bladed weapon
had evolved from a centuries old
Peasant's rice harvesting sickle tool...

It becomes obvious what such a blade is ideally shaped for.
It "traps" anything caught within the arc of its curvature...
