I am looking for a folder and everyone that I like the blade is always under 4". I want a folder I can carry everyday to replace my CRKT M-16 OIF that has a 4" blade. I saw a few Cold Steel models but wanted something with a heavier handle right around $100-$125 at most. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Have you taken a look at the Spyderco Police 3 with G-10 handles or the Spyderco Military?

 Military.

You only need to choose a color.

I think due to many states imposing a length restriction on blades, there isnt a huge market for 4 inch+ blades on folders.

Military is a great knife.

I've heard good things about the Lone Wolf t2 as well.

i recently got a gerber applegate combat, its a pretty big folder. i like it, its blade is over 4 inches.

Id buy that in a heartbeat, if it was available in PE :grumpy:

You could sharpen the swedge because the blade is completly incased in the handle, correct?

:)

I also suggest the Spydie Millitary. If you want a large folder I also think highly of the Benchmade Rukus. It's a pig. You might be able to find either in your price range.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did own a spyderco police in all stainless before. I know where there is an Applegate full size folder for $80, the only thing that stopped me was it didn't have a pocket clip. I'll check out the models suggested.

dont let the combo edge turn you off, its still a nice big knife. yeah you could sharpen the other side if you wanted, but i dont think its really necessary.

Hi Jamn,

Most knife makers have to be aware of the laws regarding knives through out their distribution. Spyderco distributes in the US, but also in 50+ countries.

It seems that most laws regarding knives are local to a given area and most are based on blade size.

Texas is an exception to the rule. (although it is illegal to carry a locking knife in San Antonio).

There is a also the question of practical size. A 4" blade folder will generally have a handle length of 4.5" - 5.5". This is a normal size range for a handle for a folder or a fixed blade. When a blade goes to 5.0" or larger, then the handle becomes quite large and it might be more practical to carry a fixed blade.

We do have a concept model folder design by Laci Szabo that is quite large (over 4 inches) and it received good reaction at the Blade Magazine show. We're considering the model for production, but it would be a ways off.

Wow.. I bought a few locking blade folders in san antonio a few years ago. I didnt know they were illegal.

I believe Texas' limit is 5.5 in. on any knife in public.
