What's within' your reach in the car?

My two EDC's in the pockets: always a SAK plus the "flavor of the day" in the other. In the visor above me are two neck knives for jogging: a CRKT Stiff Kiss, plus a Cuda Arclite (what a great buy for the money!), plus a keychain size ceramic rod.

In the "portable desk" on the passenger seat next to me is a Cold Steel SRK, plus spare mags for my 1911, as well as my Kel Tec P-11. Behind the passenger seat is a 3-D Maglite, as my Surefires are always in my briefcase. And finally, in the glove box, a SOG Multi Tool. There's a whole lot of wasted space in that car that can hold more blades! :D geegee

Only thing in the interior is a S&W rescue tool in the glovebox. In the trunk I keep a Kabar and a kukri with my fishing equipment, you never know when you're gonna need to clear your way toward a good fishing spot :)
Also a 6D maglite and a Gorilla crowbar.

Switched has the right of it. I wonder what a LEO would think walking up to that car. Is having a concealed knife in your vehicle different than having one on your body? Just curious.

I keep a custom Meerdink "Cahill's Gold" mounted next to my spit cup in a Kydex rig I made.

It's just opposite the drivers side of my center console and great when I need to open a can of chew or cut up lunch.

I also keep a spare neck sheath in the car for those times I need to carry it outside of the car.

I keep a Benchmade Rescue Hook and a window punch within easy reach of the driver in both my cars. Their sheaths close with velcro, but those are firmly attached to the car with cable ties.

My main vehicle is a mini-wagon (2003 Subaru WRX Sport Wagon). Since it doesn't have a trunk I have secured my emergency kit to the tie-downs in back using carabiners. That kit includes a Becker Combat Bowie and a Gerber Legend multi-tool, in addition to a bunch of other tools and emergency gear.

My backup vehicle (1993 Saturn SC-2) is only used for short trips these days. I keep a much smaller emergency kit, unsecured, in its trunk. That kit includes a Becker Crewman and a Victorinox SwissTool X multi-tool, in addition to a small selection of other gear.

I started off both emergency packs with a good first aid kit.

P.S. I have a few web pages on personal and vehicular emergency equipment at http://www.october.com/preparedness/.

usually a lighter, smokes, Tinker, Micra/Solitare and a Case yellow CV trapper. I have a couple of screwdrivers in the glove box (edit#2:also a warm hat and two pairs of sunglasses) but since you need two hands to open it I don't know how handy they are. Behind the rear seat I have a small socket set, a screwdriver set and a set of wrenches. Behind the driver's seat are a can of starting fluid and a can of B-12 ChemTool. I suppose carb cleaner would make an okay pepper spray substitute. In the trunk I have an old shinai I use to prop the trunk open when I fill up with gas. I guess the tools behind the rear seat would be dangerous in an accident but if get in an accident I'm scewed anyway, I drive a Baja Bug. My trunk lid, nose and fenders are fiberglass. I'm trying to save the money to put a Class11 roll cage, some better seats and four point harnesses in. But for now the low back seats and lap belts aren't going to do much for me. My defense is being visible/audible (she's tall and loud). Oh, also have a vest in the back and two hooded pull-overs in the trunk.

edit: almost forgot about the screwdriver set.

Doubtful, do I look that stupid? It's cocaine.:D

Just kidding, I live in the country, it's dirt and stones.:(

I've been stopped many times,(due to my decision to look like a long haired hippie type biker dude) and never had a problem, I've got family on the job, and the one thing I've learned is that the comfort level of an LEO is set witin the first 60 seconds of stop.

Don't give them a reason to feel uncomfortable, and you should have a reasonable experience.

What I love about you guys is that I don't feel weird in your company. In my car is always an Entrek Companion, it's just good to have a fixed blade handy. I always keep a leatherman multitool for those difficult situations, when you need a pliers and/or scissors. The car has a mini-griptilin in the ashtray. I usually have my edc on the passenger seat in my shoulderbag, it always has a blue aluminum Buck Metro, and either my Al Mar s2k or a REKAT Pioneer in it.

Good Evening All-

Well, there's always my EDC clipped onto my right pocket. Besides that, I have a BM Rescue Hook secured to the mirror with velcro. It is very light and would not likely cause injury if knocked loose in an accident.

Additionally, I concur with Gollnick.

The energy released in an accident is unbelievable. Whatever is in the cabin of your car (papers, coins, toll transponders, ice scrapers, food & beverage containers, garage door openers, briefcases etc.) will be mixing around as if they were in a high-speed blender. Most possessions belong in the trunk.
