What's wrong with me?

It's a closeup of two handles... one in Delrin and one in Micarta.
I wanted to show how close they actually are in color, look, and feel.
Ah, yup, I see it now. I’m seeing pins on the edges of two scales. Neat picture. Kind of like those “duck/rabbit” pictures. At first I thought I was looking at a through tang of a fuzzy knife down the center.

I don't consider myself biased against micarta or G10. But I apparently almost never buy knives with covers of either material. I think this Colt canoe is my only G10 knife and the GEC 72 (thanks, Dee) is my only micarta knife. I like the handles of both knives, but I can't think of any other micarta or G10 examples I own. (At least I can't think of other examples in the middle of the night.)

I've tried to get into micarta folders but they've unfortunately never grown on me... I like it in fixed blades as well and recently acquired an Al Mar Shiva with black micarta and a Randall 14 with the dark brown green micarta.. the Randall really has nice character in light. My dad was talking to his neighbor about my knife interest and it turns out he as well collects. I went over there one night and my dad mentioned this and I went outside to show him a Sawby interframe I had in my pocket.. he goes "do you know who Joe Kious is?" And my eyes must have turned to saucers because I assumed he might have some case knives or something but knowing how many different types of knives people collect I had zero expectations. He has the Kious knife from the movie exposure!

Anyways he gave me a wonderful deal on some knives he was looking to sell. The Randall , Al Mar, a canal street Bowie and a Colt bayonet.. I just started getting more into fixed blades so it was such a cool experience. I included a GEC gunstock in Ebony with payment.

This is off topic now but pretty cool experience and led to two knives with micarta and more importantly a friend. I think it's a wonderful material in fixed blade knives...infact it just makes sense being more directed towards hard use. But with folders I am all stag, ivory (mammoth or elephant ), all pearl typea...and have found stone (jasper, Jade, agate etc) inlays quite nice too with some of the fancier stuff I collect. Good jigged bone is growing on me quite a bit!

I don't object to materials as much as I do colors and graphics. I tend to avoid knives that have writing or pictures on the handles. And I prefer natural colors like black, white, brown and tan. I make exception for natural shells like abalone. I actually like the carbon fiber handles with patterns that change in the light. The thing I don't like that is traditional is yellow handled knives.
