What's wrong with the factory blade coating?

I used my Izula as-is, until the coating started looking bad. I then stripped just the blade. I kept the handle coating to help prevent rust under the scales since it didn't show any wear:

The polished and patina'd blade is a much better slicer w/o the coating. I actually like it much better stripped.
