What's You (CRK) Knife Strategy?

My beginning strategy *for knives in general* was to get 1 single end all EDC knife to have in my pocket and use it when needed.

So, I bought myself a: small Sebenza 21 w/micarta inlays. Love the knife.

Then it went as follows:

Large plain Sebenza 21- Didn't like it. Sold it.
Mnandi w/box elder- wasn't what I expected. Sold it.
Mnandi w/lignum vitae- bought it unseen because the dealer said it was the best grain pattern he has seen with this wood. Love the knife.
Star-Tac Umnumzaan- Really like the handle pattern. Like the knife even though I don't usually like bigger knives.
Small plain regular Sebenza- Never used it and I always ended up carrying my small micarta 21. Sold it.
Mnandi w/cocobolo- was a beater Mnandi and sold it to a friend who is sort of into knives.
Small Sebenza 21 w/ivory inlays- wasn't what I expected. Sold it.
Small Sebenza 21 w/lignum vitae- got it to match my LV Mnandi.
Sebenza 25 w/micarta- Just got it today and I am liking it.

Also, while buying CRKnives I bought other brands and have shrunk my knife collection down to 10.

I have others like a Paramilitary 2, Benchmade mini-grip, 2 Fellhoelter Frikky's, Tank Knives one-off, T.A. Davison and some Kershaws that I don't count. Not really.

My small 21 should be the only knife I need for the rest of my life, If I was single and had the cash I would own more, but practicality dictates I should be satisfied with this one. I have a kid and and am trying to finally limit my knife ownership to the few favorites I already own, I realize this is lame on a knife forum.

I wouldn't say I have a strategy either. I've got two Small Sebenza 21's, a Carbon Fiber and an Ironwood Inlay. I like Micarta inlays, so I'll probably end up with a Small Micarta 21 at some point. But that's not a high priority item for me at the moment. I have no interest in Large Sebenzas/Zaans. They're too big for me to carry. And as useful as the Insingo blade shape is, it doesn't speak to me at all.

A Small 25 might be interesting, but one of the reasons I like the Small 21 is its light weight. I don't imagine there would be enough of a performance difference between a Small 21 and a Small 25 to make me willing to take on the extra weight of the 25, but we'll see.

I'm down to a single Sebenza, a small micarta classic and have been focusing on Mnandis the past few years. I've focused on older damascus offerings, the rarer inlays and mammoth inlays. It is a collection in transition.

I am sure all you guys are waiting for my comments......lol.

I really don't have a strategy. I have many styles that I like, like the One Piece Knives ( My First CRK Love ) and Large Regular Sebenzas. As many CRK as I have and have owned, I still do not consider myself a collector. To me, a collector is someone who collects safe queens and the like. I will buy a user just as I would buy a safe queen. I just buy what I like, I just happen to have amassed several......lol.

If I do have a strategy, its to look for the best price and ones that are not messed with other than normal use.

I do wanna get a mammoth one day and an Insingo, but both have eluded me many times over as I usually find something that catches my eye.

Mine has developed into owning different variations of CRK folders, each different.

All acquired in the last 6 months:

25
Micarta large 21 left-handed
Micarta large Insingo right-handed
New-pivot left-handed Umnumzaan
Old-pivot Umnumzaan pre-"Made in Idaho" and sans lockbar stabilizer
New-pivot Wilson Combat StarTac, right-handed

Now I'm contemplating a 25 Micarta, which would give me two 25s as well.

Seems only a matter of time!
