Sure we all love to talk about our primary blades how great they are and all we've customized it but say it gets lost stolen or unable to reach?? You go to youre backup may it be a pocket knife or spare fixed in youre bob/car/inch/ect... lets see youre backup. For me its a plain usmc kabar

online photo: this knife is not on rotation. it goes with me anywhere.

Its not weird everyone has a different carry, we all do different jobs and need different knives

PM2 is my main EDC blade.

Squirt hangs in my pocket as well, so it is in fact my backup. I do keep a Rat 1 in the truck though.

My primary EDC varies from day to day, but I always have a Leatherman Wingman in my back pocket, so I'll call that my backup.

I always (as long as I'm not in restricted areas) carry a small folder in my left front pocket. It can vary over time but there's generally one there always. Right now it's a Spyderco Dragonfly G10 but it has also been a Dragonfly 2, Pingo, SAK or either a Case stockman or medium jack. I usually also carry a second folding knife with 3"-3.5" blade.

I usually carry two knives daily; Vic SAK Adventurer and currently the ZT0770CF. The ZT gets used less, so it would be my "backup". I keep extra unused Adventurers available should I loose one. They are true backups as opposed to the second knife you default to use.

I usually carry a small folder and a small - medium fixed blade. The folder gets used more often. If it's a bigger job I use the fixed blade.... Or if I just got the fixed blade I use it more than the folder just to use it. I have plenty of opportunities to use a knife daily. Use em all day long at work.

So I guess this is my primary:

And this is my backup:

Gravited away from biggies. Capt. Spaulding and I are much alike, LOL. My SAK or stockmen get the most use. My OHO has
been varying between a Stretch and a Boker XS.

I always carry several knives and tools, mostly because it makes me happy. :D Which one is the "main" or "back-up" knife actually depends on my mood, the task at hand and where I am.

I spend a lot of time on the road, away from home and in my country you can't pick up good gear in most cities, so I like to carry spares.

The specific knives and tools switch around a lot, but this is more or less what I carry daily. Two folders and a SAK in my pockets, fixed blade and multitool in my backpack. When working at the ranch or backpacking, I only carry a fixed blade and a multitool. In the city, if I need to go light for whatever reason I just carry a folder and a SAK.

Typically, my backup is my EDC. I carry a black Alox Cadet everyday and can be considered my backup. Usually accompanied by a larger 3.5"+ folder.

I always have an AG Russell 2.5 Titanium Lockback in my wallet and lately this Countycomm Ladybug H1.

But I always have backups for my EDC; Ritter S30V with Bladescales.com's G-10 Black Honeycomb (bottom of photo).
Here are a S30V mini, S30V Full with black Anzo scales from Bladescales.com and of course the newest (top) a full sized M390 Ritter.
Plenty of back ups.

Generally carry a Benchmade Griptillian backed up by a Leatherman tool of some sorts. I find myself using the screwdrivers on the Leatherman quite often, while I need a blade less.

The knives I most carry are my BK9 and my BK14. The BK14 gets the most use of the two throughout the day, even though the BK9 is my primary blade.

Should the BK9 ever get lost, I've got a KA-BAR kukri machete that's seen a great bit of use, and I wouldn't hesitate to field it.
