What's your beater?

If you guys are like me, you always keep a good "cheap" knife to perform all the nasty little chores you don't want to subject your higher end knives to. For me, it's been a fully serrated CRKT Mirage for the past few months. I can't believe how well this knife has held up, given the abuse I've put it through. No blade-play and its' locking liner hasn't even moved at all from the far left position. I always flick it open hard, have used it to cut wire, etc.. A very underrated knife! :D Any body want to comment on their beater?

As far as my "beaters" I have several that I alternate in carry and use constantly:

Benchmade AFCK 800
Benchmade 710
Benchmade 550
Spyderco Endura
Spyderco Wegner
CRKT Ryan Model 7
Outdoor Edge Magna
Camillus EDC 154CM

These are some of my favourite knives and all have been used and sharpened. All perform well and despite the scratches and scuffs on the blades and handles, I cherish them all. When they get really battered, I'll eventually retire them.

I definitely abuse my 550 and it has held up well. Even took it to Nicaragua two weeks ago . . . while helping to build a small church and feeding center I used it in place of a scratch awl on the steel beams we were cutting . . . rounded the point some but that is about it!

I have 3 "beaters" which really are some of my favorite knives that have just been used / abused hard.

Spyderco Rookie -G10
Small AFCK - my first of 3
CRKT Mirage Zytel Wharncliff blade

MY BEATERS. Oh man do I BEAT em
1. Timberline Discovery
2. Spyderco Standard
3. Benchmade 710
4. MT LCC/MA (Alien Defense Beater...Nah, You DON'T Wanna know!!!!)

CRKT Mirage also, it's a black zytel plain edge I got off E-Bay for a few bucks, but it's a tough little blade for sure.

Cold Steel large clip point Voyager. I always take it along when something nasty needs doing.

Either a CRKT Mirage Wharncliffe or a Spyderco Delica. Although, the Buck Mini-Strider begs to be used hard!

I beat all factory knives, some more than others. My BM Griptilian, Sere 2000, Strider mini, CRKT M16, Delica and others have all seen some abuse.

I baby all customs except ones that I have built. My EDC for the past 5 months is a stout 440C and titanium utility folder that I made and I beat it mercilessly so I can see what it can take. So far it has scraped paint, scraped masking tape residue off a concrete floor, opened paint cans, cut wooden trim moldings, trimmed branches in the yard........you get the picture!:D

My "beaters" would have to be my "old-style" REKAT Pioneer clip-point, or my Victorinox 2 blade thin SAK. Those are the two that get used the most.

Quite the gaggle of. . .

CRK large regular Sebenza
CRK small classic Sebenza
Benchmade 690
Microtech LCC DA (plain edge)
Microtech SOCOM DA (plain edge tanto)
Microtech SOCOM DA (serrated tanto)
Microtech SOCOM MA (plain edge clip point)
Kershaw Random Task
Kershaw Double Cross
Camillus Cuda EDC
Mad Dog ATAK 2 (serrated)
JSP Arch Angel 2
DDR EDC (fighter blade)
Dobruski Atlantis Model 2
Mike Obenauf small Model 1
Jason Jacks Tactical
Kit Carson small Model 2 (clip point)
Kit Carson Medium Model 2 (clip point)

Life is good at time. . .

My "beater" is my CRK Large Sebenza. I use it for all the nasty jobs because it appears to be indestructable. So far, so good. :)
