What's your beater?

Wow GigOne -- I'd like to have half of your beaters for my collection. If any of them get sick of being beatup send them my way for a little TLC.

My beater -- Mini-AFCK M2 -- Spydie hole, tough G-10 and takes abuse while keeping sharp.

Well, getting away from folders, an Ericksson Mora knife is my preferred beater. For folders, a CS Twistmaster, 4" blade.

For fixed blade beating, I use a Buck 119, but hope to someday get a Kabar or Camillus marine fighting knife for beating. For everything else, I pretty much use my Old Timer 8-OT, or Buck 112. But, I try not to abuse my knives too badly. Outside of cutting, there is usually a better tool for the job. Sledge hammers, shotguns, and duct tape come to mind!;)

My BIG fixed blade beater is a Busse Basic 9. My small fixed blade beater is a Tops Street Scalpel. My folding beater is a Spyderco Wegner. They all get used hard. I tend to like these things more than the knives I really baby to keep them new.

Speaking of brutal treatment of blades - I beat the crap out of my Basic 9 today. There were several branches creeping under my back fence that were 2" - 3" thick. I thought they were growing in from a tree in the alley. I chopped them all down (easily) and discovered that they were growing out of a stump. I threw the big boy into the stump and twisted and pried (lots of times) and broke the stump up.

Now that's a beater!

WOW! A lot of you guys are beatin' up some fine knives! Glad to see many of you are "users", and not just collectors. :D

my beater is a BM 975SBT i bought from a fellow forumite, used, for $40 - was carried some, and the coating on the blade scuffed some, but 100% functional- i sharpened it up and use it for my go/do everything knife, and it works great, though cant do any fine cutting due to chisel edge, thats what my BM/emerson/crawford etc is for- but imho is much better than a CRKT, etc, and for about the same $$ - dont mind using it since the coating on the blade is already worn .......

It seems like my med. CRKT Apache is always with me.
Sometimes first, sometimes second, but always in the line up.
Good steel, nice size, great lock-up, fast opening and
inexpensive too.

MT L-UDT

Good heat treat, functional blade shape and grind, and a lock that I trust.

Folder:
My CRK large Sebenza - damn, this is a fine knife. 2 years in my pocket, used every day, dropped on the concrete over and over, and it sharpens up like new in about ten seconds. This is truly an indestructible blade.

Fixed:
My Livesay Air Attack (Assault?)
Not so expensive that I have to worry about it. The ergonomics on this knife are comparable to my most expensive blades, and it is the one that screams "USE ME - ABUSE ME" every time I need a prybar/cutter/wedge/multipurpose piece of sharp steel. Also indestructible, and VASTLY underrated.
