whats your dream jacket/coat?

One jacket will not do everything for me. I have a Jones New York black leather, and a Jones suede blazers for when I drive my car (vet). I wear a Joe Rocket jacket on my bike(ZX9R). And finally a Carhartt Detroit when I'm in my truck(blaser).
Wow, I would like to have the goat skin M65 though.

This thread reminded me of a coat I've wanted for some time.

Not much more to say. You either get it, or you don't. If I can quit buying knives next year, this might wind up under the tree.

That is cool! Custom, made to order, will make me think I am "Jeremiah Johnson". I like it! :) Since I live in Fayetteville, NC I don't need a jacket that will keep me very warm. Usually if it is real cold( 25/30degs BRRRR!!) I'll layer up a notch or two. :)

Hi All-

Seth, I too am the proud owner of a Padded Pocket Columbia and pants custom-built to my measurements by the folks at Langlitz Leathers a few years ago. I even flew to Portland, Oregon for fitting, since this was a garment I anticipated wearing for at least twenty-five years.

Similarly, mine was also upgraded to goatskin for added flexibility. I did opt for the padding on shoulders and elbows, plus the removable fur collar, but deleted the epaulettes as unneeded. My handwarmer and gun pockets are leather-lined, but I stuck with the heavy canvas lining in the other pockets to reduce weight and increase comfort. The best features are the forearm pocket for paying highway tolls and the gun pocket, which can reasonably handle sidearms up to about the size of a Colt Commander. It works best for small revolvers like a Ruger SP-101 .357 Magnum with a bobbed hammer.

As far as suggested improvements, the folks at Langlitz should slightly extend the front of the jacket near where it meets your belt buckle. At the same time, they should research extending the integrated kidney belt to cover slightly lower in the rear. It's just a comfort thing. I agree that the zipper requires some work. The operation of the zipper is not nearly as smooth and positive as what should be expected.

Whether driving a car or piloting a motorcycle, a Langlitz is a great safety feature. As long as you're seatbelted in a car, I would expect that thick jacket to protect you from any flying glass or debris. On a bike, the flexible yet tough and water-resistant goatskin will protect your hide should you separate from the motorcycle assuming you're also wearing a high-quality, full-face helmet.

Regards,

p.s. If you ever purchase a jacket built by Langlitz, also spend the few extra bucks on their excellent leather preservative and a small goatskin scarf for use on really cold days.

i had the same dilema...so i decided to make my own.
my mother was a seamstress so she showed me the works and i've gone from there to make 2 short jackets and a formal chinese outfit (it was for a wedding)

my latest piece is a motorclycle jacket made of "mixed fibers" (thats the label on it when i bought it in fabricland) is almost waterresistant if i spray it with those waterproofing sprays.
the current one has no pockets in it because i was testing the shape for comfort..my next one will be full featured with cables imbeded for cellphone and MD/mp3 player use.

mst of my designs are made with movement in mind..i hate consticting cloths..and i hate baggy clothing...well fit and full articulation are a MUST for me...so my sleves are always gusseted at the armpits and elbows always have space to stretch.
so far it been tons of fun..and saves me lots of money (people have seen my jackets and asked me where i've bought them..when i tell them i made them for less then $20 they are usually suprised.) i'll post pics of my latest jacket once my father comes back from mexico with the digi cam =\

About 15 or so years back, Barbour came out with a fantastic military-style camoflauge jacket. It had two slanted breast pockets and was only sold for 1 or 2 years. By the time I realized how much I liked it, it was GONE! And, I couldn't even find one in the aftermarket. I even wrote to Barbour, who couldn't help, as it was out of production. So, folks, if you see something that really rings your chimes, buy it. For when tomorrow comes, it may be too late.

I got a blue old navy jacket.

I like the look, pockets (it has 2 outer breast pockets, two outer hand warming pockets, and an inner breast pocket for cd player, it's big and you can put a lot of stuff in it), fit.

I wish it was water proof, a little more warm (especially the sleeves), and didn't rip so easily (I got two big ass holes in it, and I don't know how they go there). Oh, and the hood is to damn big.
