What's your EDC? I'm looking for suggestions for a really tough folding blade.

I'm looking for a really tough folding blade for EDC. I currently carry a CRKT M21-14SFG which is a great knife but I have had it for 4 years now and I'm looking for something new. I'm considering the Cold Steel Spartan because I have heard that it is pretty reliable. I'm open for suggestions and would like to know what you guys us for your EDC.

A price range would be very helpful. That really decides what you get. There are lots of good options though, from an Ontario Rat 1 to a Hinderer XM 24. I have to/choose to stay on the lower end of knives (25-150) as I think most people do, so that's all I really know.

The Spartan is HUGE. Most people will cry about the size/weight of it, and not consider it an EDC blade.

Try the Boker Kalashnikov 101. It's huge and tough. Cold Steels are tough but lack any form of fondle factor imo.

BM Adamas/Contego, ZT 0550/0560 are some of the best value mid-price, tough as nails folders IMO, I left AO's out as I don't like them and therefore have no direct experience with them, 0350's are very popular tho and also very affordable.

I recently snatched up a zt0350. Very tough and affordable. If u want one of the toughest folders made, adamas. Plain n simple. That d2-bladed tank-like knife is truly a beast! Only knock is overall weight n thickness. Some people (not me) think it's a little too much knife to EDC. To each his own.

If you want something tough and don't mind a bit of weight, here are some suggestions:

-Almost any Zero Tolerance. 0200 and 0350 are the more affordable ones. 0300, 0560, 0550 are excellent, too. Any of them will be a huge step up from your CRKT.

-Benchmade Adamas. Big and hefty, but practical and very smooth. I'm surprised by how the blade just glides open (I've got a few other AXIS BMs and this one is the smoothest).

-Cold Steel American Lawman, Voyager, Recon 1, Talwar, etc. Pretty much anything with a Tri-Ad lock. They are super tough, the steel is OK but nothing to write home about. If you want something really large, this is the brand to look at. Some of the XL models are relatively pocket friendly considering their size (like the XL Voyagers). I'm not too fond of the Spartan you mentioned, since the handle is too thick and it takes up too much pocket space, plus I'm not fond of bead blasted blades. If you want a big CS folder with the disk so you can use it as a wave, go for the Talwar XL.

Personally, I'd go for a ZT 0200. A great knife at a reasonable price.

There are many good EDC fixed blades out there and they are always stronger than a folder. Cold Steel does have the Triad Lock which is very well known. I like their Cold Steel Recon actually selling mine to a friend. Cold Steel knives are made to be beaten on and used.

If your already considering cold steel that would be a good choice. Their blades are very tough. Spartan, Voyager or Recon should all be good options.

I like the my endura 4 right now as my tough EDC folder. But for a cheaper knife I just got a utilitac II and its pretty beefy and seems well built so far.
