What's your EDC? I'm looking for suggestions for a really tough folding blade.

Here's my usual plug:

The Spyderco Native will be tough enough for what you want. It's great. Get it.

I only have a small collection but consider all my folder's to be tough.Not knowing a price range I am going to suggest 3 that you can pick up for under $150, if you look around the internet;

- BM Adamas has already been mentioned and it is a very tough folder of that there is no doubt!

- ZT0200 is the toughest folder I think that I've ever owned.

- Fox/Citadel Deimos is my current carry and has been since the middle of December, a long time for me to carry the same knife. Of the three it is the largest with a 4.5" broad spearpoint blade. Love this knife, especially in the micarta handled version.

Though not really suggesting this one, but it came in today, and it is the Brous Blades "The Threat" folder. Only a 3.5" blade though, but built tough just like a mini ZT0200.

Good luck on getting a new knife. But do be sure to give us a dollar figure you wish to spend.

Oh yeah, WELCOME to BF!!:thumbup::)

I like the my endura 4 right now as my tough EDC folder. But for a cheaper knife I just got a utilitac II and its pretty beefy and seems well built so far.

I was about to suggest the Utilitac II :thumbup:

It's definitely built to be a user. I have no complaints about mine:

I have a Cold Steel American Lawman and its got probably the strongest lockup on any knife I've used. $60 does seem a bit steep for what you get but if you can get some triad lock knife used or on sale then I think its a great strong folder. In normal cutting tasks I think its great and as long as you're not really thumping on it then it should suit you well. I'm pretty confident that the blade would break before the lock would fail. The only real downside is you can't really flick the knife but that's not a huge deal.

I just got a ZT 0550...it is a beast. I've got quite a few knives...many Kershaw, some bench made and buck one spydero....anyway the 0550 has filled the void I have been looking for in a knife more than any other it big but EDC worthy...g10 on one side aluminum on the other...massive titanium frame lock S35v steel...its price tag was a bit higher than others (around 180) but after looking at a few others and reading the specs to finally holding it in my hand...10 out of 10

I may have found the one...

Hope that helps

Strider SnG, Spyderco Gayle Bradley, Spyderco delica or endura, Benchmade Griptilian or mini-grip or 530 pardue, just about anything kershaw.

What's your budget?

What size are you looking for?

Do you want one handed opening and closing?

Do you want assisted?

That utilitac looks beastly... The 0550 has got me for now but I may have to dabble there eventually:encouragement:

I can verify it doesn't just look beastly. :D

If your budget is under $90, I haven't found a better folder. If you have $90 though, I'd be getting an 0350 blem from KershawGuy, as I've beat the heck out of my 0350 and it's a VERY tough knife, especially for a liner lock.

Believe it or not, I like the $25 Utilitac II more though.

I have been carrying a Kershaw Knockout (speed safe assisted opening with flipper) for a few weeks and am very happy with it. I also think that the 14C28N steel is right up there close to any super steel around. It's over built/beefy along the lines of a ZT but is much more pocket friendly for EDC and cost less than a ZT yet it's still made in the USA and made by the same Co. as ZT, KERSHAW.

I also have a ZT 0350 but still like the Knockout more for EDC.

Here's a pic of my knockout (the one with the black handle, obviously) along with my GEC #54 I carry them both daily.

Heavy duty edc? +1 (or whatever number I am :D) for any of the larger Cold Steels with the Tri-Ad lock. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those. I'd also take a look at Quartermaster Knives. Despite the ongoing debate over the company itself here on the forum, I've been carrying my QTR-1 Murdock constantly for a couple months with no issues. Pivot bearings are still smooth, blade locks up like a vault with zero play (locks up early and hasn't moved, either), and holds an outstanding edge. I did a little micro bevel on my Lansky turn box when I first got it, and I haven't had to do anything to it since. Good customer service, too. :thumbup:

I like all the ZT's for toughness! I still think the most hardcore folder out there is the ZT 301!

Like several who've already commented, I recommend Cold Steel. I really like my Recon 1. It feels great in my hand and is also relatively thin, so it feels comfortable in my pocket as well. I don't have a Spartan, but I've heard nothing but good things about it. It now comes with a stone wash finish which is good news to many. Another knife to consider is the Voyager. I have an XL clip blade and love it. The Voyager is an entry-level model that, in my opinion, offers a lot utility for the money.

Benchmade Adamas is one tough beast. Its extremely smooth and glides effortlessly. It is a tank and wont let you down.

ZT 0350, 0200, Benchmade Adamas. All are tanks, I've got my Adamasib my pocket right now and it's weighing it down :D
