What's Your Experience With Cutlery Store Employees?

Sorry SharpEdge, but I did mean Internet prices.

I don't expect brick and mortar stores to meet Internet prices, but neither do I expect to pay $145 for a knife (or any other consumer good) that I can get for $85 - $95. What I expect is a reasonable compromise, e.g., $110.

dsvirsky, if the rents, taxes, employee payrolls etc are able to be compromised, im sure you can pay alot less for a knife in a local store. The point is that if we are having a slow day, which we often do these days, we still have to pay the same amount of rents and other stuff. We want to keep the price down too, but there are expenses to meet.

Blanchards Cutlery is probably one of the best Cutlery stores you will ever visit. If you ever visit Las Vegas make sure you visit. Its owend by Gary Blanchard and his wife both are very knowledgeable and they have a large selection of production stuff and a fine selection of handmade stuff. In the rerar of the store you can watch Gary working on one of his fine custom knives (he is a maker as well) or even watch him do some faboulous engraving.

I,ve purchased several knives from Howard at AZ Knife Source, he,s very knowledgeable and sells at pretty low prices. Cat Cutlery here in Phoenix also. In the malls here there's a chain with a store in each. Some more knowledgeable than others, usually not much help. Prices in these mall stores much higher than stand alone stores! But for entertainment they can't be beat! Twice in the last couple of years my wife and I have seen the sales clerks , while showing off knives, cut themselves in front of the prospective buyers! Not a good sales pitch!
( neither one was a bad cut, and I,ve lost count of how many times I've cut myself.Though I usually do it without an audience!)

I had purchased a knife from the cutlery store at the local mall an it was my first and last time. Besides not knowing a darn thing about knives except that it was a folder. i asked if i could have a closer look at the lock and (he said the what) i just looked at him. Then he could not figure out how to close it. Here he is banging the knife on the side of the counter trying to force it closed. I ended up purchasing the knife on it's own merits not the salesmans, and because i could stand the thought of the knife in the box being tortured in future demo. I then made the mistake of asking about a sharper!!!!!! Yikes WE DON"T sell those. SO i replied who was the rocket scientist who thought of that. WOW we are in a cutlery store and you do not sell sharpening systems. WOW. I guess i must not have have been the only unhappy customer since then. Last christmas my wife gave me a Spyderco tri angle. And guess where she got it. Since then i have made all knife purchases on line. Sorry about carrying on i think i was having flashbacks.
