What's your favorite blade finish/coating?

I love the look of gun blue. Its mostly done on carbon steel.I have a folder by Rick Hinderer with a 4" blade(gun blued)that looks great.

Robb, I've seen that technique on a knife that was blued by a guy I know who is an amateur knife maker. It was an interesting look. He offered to make a knife for me. Maybe I should call and get him to do up one of his fixed blades for me(that's all he currently makes).

I don't know what it is, but the black coating on my Al Mar Sere 2K looks nice and it is very tough. It has smoothed and "thinned out" a little to where the bevels show through a little bit but it has been really scratch resistant.

I really like a mirror finished blade, but once it gets scratched - Uhg! I agree that a stonewashed blade is probably the most practical but I don't really like how it looks. It sort of looks like those cheapo sheets of galvanized tin.

stonewashed, exactly for the reasons stated above. A close second would be a handrubbed satin finish.
