What's your favorite blade shape/design any why?

Drop point or spear point are something I grew up. I've taken big liking on leaf shape blades too. A nice muskrat or turkish clip are great too, if I have to choose something: Wharncliffe. Its beautiful blade and very good utility knife for my EDC purpouse (urban edc). I woods, I take nice drop point or spear point, ty very much.

Saber grind is a type of GRIND, not blade shape (from what I know, correct me if I'm wrong). You can have saber, hollow, full flat, scandi or convex ground knives. They can feature a drop point, spear point, tanto, wharncliffe, sheep's foot, clip point or leaf shaped blade designs.

I mostly like drop points, because I like to have a solid tip and a very nice belly on my knives. However I also like leaf shaped blades a lot too. For defensive purposes not many designs will beat a spear point, clip point or tanto blades.
Just my 2 cents.

Yep. youre right. saber is a type of grind- and i like sabers a lot for EDC. i forgot to add that i like a good drop point or clip point shape with a saber grind. i was writing the post from my phone and sometimes i get distracted or miss some key elements. sorry about the confusion.

I like clip-point/drop-point sytles like you see on an Izula. I think that's considered drop-point, but basically I just like to have a good sharp tip, with a belly behind it, and mostly a straight blade afterward.

I think my second favorite after that would be a Wharnecliffe... Kind of like the opposite of the clip to me though since it's got a straight edge, but most of the other features I want ( such as a sharp tip) are there.

Sheepsfoot would probably be third

I like full flat grinds over anything else, and I'm not that into convex'ing. Most of my knives are sabre or hollow ground though.

Anything, as long as it's shaped like a Smatchet..... :D

But seriously, the Wharncliffe is great for most urban EDC uses and whittling. I like the spyderco military's blade shape over the traditional drop point. has a longer, less extreme belly, and a pointier tip. I find very little use with the massive belly and more obtuse tip on drop point/hunters. if I did more game processing I could see liking it more, though.

I'm a big fan of the clip point blade.

Wharncliffe blades are my favorite for folding knife chores. They are also what I'm partial to in small defensive folders.

Larger folders and small fixed blades? Probably a trailing point/roach belly/Persian. I am especially partial to these blades if they have a pronounced heel that also acts as a guard. It adds a lot of versatility to the knife in utility and food preparation tasks, and it's a simple, effective way to keep your mitts on the handle.

Large fixed blades? Traditional tantos and Bagwell style bowies. They move like lightning in your hand. Properly built examples are tons of good, clean, fun.

I have a four foot bar of 52100 that I'm gonna make a few Smatchets and Seaxes out of. Gonna see what I think of those shortly...
