im kind of curious to see what you guys have to say on the matter. do any of you guys have a prefered blade shape? what sort of grind suits your needs?

im really into heavy use utility knives, and for some reason, i love clip points. i know they are considered more of a "fighting knife" shape, but i cant help but love the deign. the edge geometry is just fascinating to me. my favorite examples of this are the bob loveless big bear (which i dont own) and the benchmade 710 (which is one of my favorite folders)

ide also have to say modified drop points range high on my list as well.

so what about you guys? any particular knives that exemplify your appreciation for a particular blade shape?

I like to have a slight recurve to the blade. I need more belly for skinning. I am doing a custom that is very similar to the blade design above.

I like them all, but drop points more than most.

No matter how far my tastes may drift and they do drift, they always come back to this shape. It just fits me.

clip points/drop points for folders, bowie for medium/large knives and kukri for choppers, after chopping with a proper sized khukuri from HI i dont think i will ever get any other shape for a chopper, ever.

Wharncliffe, trailing point, leaf shape, spear, and bowie. I like the bowie for looks. Because I haven't really used them much. I like spear and leaf shaped blades, as I think the offer a great amount of versatility.

My all around favorite is drop point with a full flat grind. I prefer other shapes for certain specific tasks, of course.

Unfortunately, FFG drop points are somewhat hard to find in folders that I like the overall design of, so I usually settle for a clip point or spear point.

I like a full flat ground blade with a drop point or leaf shaped blade. I find them functional, easy to sharpen, and good looking.

For my user folders I like a clip point or a spear point, mostly something with a keen point. You can see in the photo of my EDC knives below.

For strict aesthetics I like some spear point or clip point blades such as on "tactical knives". I like a lot of the custom Bowie knives that I see, and I also like lots of custom hunting knives such as the classic Loveless knife.

Wharncliffes or modified wharncliffes for me. They're not all that common, so I don't have as many wharnies as I do other more "standard" shapes, like drop or clip points. They're still my favorite though. I'm also intrigued by leaf shaped blades, but I haven't tried one yet. I'm eyeballing a spyderco sage...
