whats your favorite camp knife???

I don't do...just one.

Folder (small, at least to me): Ritter Mk1, BM Ruckus, or BM Skirmish

Fixed: Busse Hell Razor or SatinJackTAC (if only a little S hits the fan), Busse FBM LE and/or CRK hollow-handle (have a few; if a lot of S hits the fan)

Not that there aren't other excellent choices, generally for less $$. But what the heck...if I've got it...

Tan Camp Tramp that I have used the hell out of. Just got a Ranger RD7 satin with black G10 handles with red spacers that might be a very close second when I get to use it.

Well, I pretty much post this every time one of these threads comes up, but here goes.

My Ranger RD7 does pretty much everything I need in a camp knife. That is, everything my pocket knives don't, of course. My Opinel #8, Spyderco Native and Wenger Handyman (especially the Wenger) see a lot of camp work as well. I use the RD7 for all the tough stuff, though. And yes, I do baton with it, as I still haven't buckled down and bought a hatchet yet.

PC356, I must say, I think you'll find the RD7 to be an amazing knife in the field. I've put mine through all kinds of things I probably shouldn't have, and it just asks for more.

Okay, everybody do the Javalina! Boom-da-boom-da, boom-boom-da-boom-da!

I would have to say my Fallkniven F1 is my favorite camp knife. I love the grip on it and it is sharp and stays sharp for a long time. I am pretty sure that it will handle anything I throw at it.

My favorite camp knife is one of these 3 Busse's:thumbup:

Here is what I like right now, a Cold Steel SRK with the front spine filed down in a leather sheath I made. Add the Gerber saw and Charge Ti and I'm set.

The bad news is that Cold Steel is out of Carbon V and will have to make new SRKs out of some other steel.

Yes I re profiled the edge. I used Ragweed's double sided diamond plate and his Viking stone to finish the edge. It cuts computer paper very smoothly!

I like to press down on the spine of the blade when I do fine cuts. The sharp part on the spine hurt my thumb so I filed it down flat and rounded the edges a little.

Yep, gotta go with the Ontario RATK II. Have used it to clear a camp site, split wood, and then cut veggies for dinner. BIG bang for the buck!

For some of us, a big knife or a machete is a camp knife. Over the years, I have used my Ontario Survival Bowie, Cold Steel Kukri, RTAK, and a 12" machete as camp knives, but I always had at least one folder for small work. I suppose I could do with a smaller knife, like my CS Master Hunter or my RAT-3 as a camp knife, if I had an axe or machete for chopping. If I was in less dense undergrowth, I might leave out the machete, but not down here. Down here in the river swamps, I always carry a big ole knife (9" to 12" blade).

My big knives get rotated pretty frequently, and I have more small camp knives than I can ever justify between the ones I've made, and my beloved Scandi knives and Bark Rivers.

The most consistent one I've used though is seen here:

It's the one labelled "MRR 4" It's very, very plain and unattractive, but it's also light, easy to carry, razor sharp, and well sized for 99% of what I typically do in the outdoors. (It's also a PDF Pretty Darn Frequently Carried) knife when I'm out and about town and home. For what it may lack in all out brute toughness it more than compensates for by being easy to live with.

I like my Busses and Rats- but to be honest the only thing I've truly field tested (here in IL and in NZ) was a Becker Crewman- and it did very well for both jobs...
