Im going to be going on a hike and camping trip son which camping knife do you guys reccomend? i trust my fellow knife lovers! :)

Ontario Machete
Ontario SP-50
Bruce Culberson Knife 7'' -8'' blade
SAK Farmer
Rapala Fillet knife
With these you should be good,IMO

Any of the Becker "Tweeners" are a good choice, I would give the nod to the BK15 though. Couple that with the Victorinox Sprint and a Spyderco PM2 and you are good to go.

BK-7.

Benchmade 710 (M390).

Leatherman PS4.

If I could only take one of the above, I'd take the Benchmade 710. Incredibly versatile and light.

The KJ Eriksson Fishing Bowie is my favorite camping knife. Not only good for fishing but a large number camping chores as well.

a pretty classic combo is some type of axe hatchet or tomahawk, a medium fixed blade (4-7" blade), and a folder.

SAK Farmer
BK11 / 14 / 16
Mora.
Where you going?
how far will you hike?
Will your son carry a knife?

If you had to have only one knife I would go with the KA-BAR Becker BK2. It is a very versatile knife. It can chop(kinda) because of its weight, baton, and do detail work if need be.

My Doug Ritter MK1 always goes with me. I sometimes take my 14" Fiskars hatchet if there is more camping than hiking.

Thank you for the pics sir. I was looking at\ interested in this knife.

In order to make a real recommendation, we need to know what you were looking to spend too.

My suggestion might be way more than you want to spend.

Others have suggested, a combo is always great. No one knife will do everyting. I would be very comfortable in a large medium small combo.

Condor makes great, very affordable machetes and camp knives. I am very partial to the Hudson bay as a medium/largish camp knife. Machete from them for a larger/brush clearing role, and a small fixed blade to round it out. You would still be below the cheapest small fixed blade from my favorite manufacturer, or any custom makers I like. You would not be under-knifed in any way at all.

I could easily leave my expensive knives home (I will some times have 2K plus worth of knives on me when camping). I have also gone with less than $100 worth and still had a great selection, and not missed the expensive stuff.

One of my reasons for recommending Condor is that they use a convex edge on most of their stuff. I love a good convex edge, especially for wood work. They are very easy to keep hair jumping/whittling sharp for me.

If I'm going to also have a hatchet or large chopper; my Spyderco Military.

If it's going to be the only cutting tool I have; my fixed blade Ka-Bar Marine knife.
