what's your favorite feature?

Hey guys,
I was just bored at home messing around on AutoCAD designing a new knife based on every one of my favorite knives, taking different things I like about all of them and putting all of those features on a single knife to create the perfect pocket knife.
Anyways, my question for any of you who care to answer it is the following: What is a feature you think every single folding knife should have?
for example: A specific blade shape, a specific grind, a handle material that you like, a certain type of lock, a certain blade coating, an open design, etc.

please let me know and I will try to design something cool that everyone will like!
thanks for your time,

I didn't get my first Spyderco knife until well after I had begin collecting. They quickly made me realize I enjoy having a finger choil. I find that the Millie, Para, Sage, Native, Superleaf are all among my favorite EDCs because they cut very well especially using the choil for control. I've heard people say a finger choil is a "waste of blade" but the aforementioned Spyderco models are all extremely popular so there must be something to it..

Currently the Native 5 is my go-to EDC because I like the more traditional back lock and enjoy one handed closing by letting the choil drop onto my finger - also S35VN is probably my favorite steel in terms of a good balance between edge retention and toughness.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Titanium frame lock

Finger choil

Thumb hole

No flipper

Thick blade stock (dpx HEST)

full flat grind

One of those little things is jimping on the back top of the knife for your thumb. Makes for much better control.

Im not terribly picky about features but my favorite ones to have I guess would be:
Thumb hole
Finger Choil

A clearance cut on the right side of the knife for thumb access to opening stud or hole, similar to the usual clearance cut on the left side, makes a knife a lot more lefty friendly without detracting from right-handed operation. I will not buy a folder that does not have it.

One of my favorite things on my Benchmade knives is the axis locking system. The quick deployment, tight lock up, and durability of it makes it awesome. I don't know if other manufacturers have this same or similar type of lock, but in my opinion it is one of the best.

My fav. is sharpness - so I guess that would be usability.
Than over all shape - for use.
Third handle material for grip - going back to usability.

A competently designed and executed pocket clip. One that does not easily develop wiggle, does not inhibit the handle ergonomics, does not grab things other than your pocket and rides deep enough in the pocket. I sincerely think about 80% of the knives on the market get this wrong.

I really think the thumb hole and the little "sharpening notch" or whatever you want to call it, the little upside-down U shape between the heel of the blade and the rest of the tang, are probably my favorites. Jimping for the thumb and forefinger are a big plus, too.

Alright, i'm taking notes..
Anybody care for a pocket-snag feature kind of like the Emerson wave, or a spring?
Any specific type of washers?
Any type of serrations or a butt pommel?
Lanyard hole?
Liners?
How about things you hate about your folding knives?

thanks again guys!

I only use my EDCs for general cutting tasks, so I like a drop point blade that comes to a pretty fine point good for piercing.

titanium lockbar with a steel insert. does the insert (ti millie) provide a certain amount of yield? the knife locks with a satisfying "clunk" that's very solid.

Good bronze washers, no nylon.

A high or full flat grind.

Thumb hole over thumb-stud ( thumb studs hit sharpening media, might snag on things etc )

True one hand opening-and-closing. Liner and frame-locks are pretty clumsy for this. AXIS and compression locks and the like are better, something to easily open and close the blade with one hand and keep your fingers out of the way the entire time.

Holes to put pocket clips in any configuration... Left, right, tip-up, tip-down...

IF you put serrations on, they should be the type which can be easily sharpened on a flat stone like ESEE does.

A full back on the handle so your change and keys don't work into the handle and dull your blade if you want to carry it keep in the pocket.

Functioning, but comfortable jimping... Enough bite to actually do something, but not so much they will make your fingers sore. Personally I've always wanted to see someone knurl the spine of a blade.

A stout tip, good and pointy but not so much so that it will catch, snag and possibly snap. Drop points are my favorite... Benchmade's "modified sheepsfoot" look nice aswell.

Things I hate...

Recurves... I don't want to have to get a dowel or a rod of some sort to sharpen them.

Pocket clips that dig into the hands or alter the feel of the grip.
