What's your favorite folder? (With a couple caveats)

Well if my CRKs are out of play ... ?

One of the group below would/does fill in. A Hinderer XM-18 swedged spearpoint ... or a Spyderco of some flavor most often a Manix II in cruwear with custom textured micarta scales or ... a PM2 in cruwear and micarta or ... a ZT 550 S35VN with micarta scales.

A few other Spyderco and ZTs could receive honorable mention depend on my needs for the day.

Or I can cheat and say Sebenza 21 Insingo ...

I regret missing the s90v ....

But if they come out with a crucarta....I must assimilate
Maybe you’ll get a second chance and come across one for a decent price on the secondary market!

I have a DLT purple Yojimbo in cruwear but would absolutely love for them to do a Yojumbo in the same config. I talked with DLT at blade and they said there were no plans for one sadly…

A Crucarta Yojumbo would be a must buy for me!!

I haven't picked up the new Military crucarta ... yet. But a Military in M4 that Jonny aka 91bravo 91bravo gave me awhile back is one that sees some pocket time so the new crucarta version with a compression lock and tip up carry option is definately on my short list ... along with the Manix 2 XL in cruwear that is available now.

Seems to be a common denominator or two here ... hmmm

seize the day! Regrind away!

I am one of those weirdos that carries a slipjoint on most days. In my day to day uses, most modern locking folders are big enough to warrant me just carrying a fixed blade in their stead and so I generally do when out of the house. I do like folders though and have a variety of Spydercos, Benchmades, LionSteels, ZTs, and some others. A mid sized slipjoint is pretty perfect for most of my everyday needs though and they carry quite well, in addition to having that old school flair that I like.

My favorite folder happens to be a special one to me. I had it commissioned by a phenomenal maker and I requested that he reproduce an unusual knife. He pulled it off smashingly and it has become a fast favorite.

Again with a bit of the new shine beaten off of it.

Next is what's typical for me on days where I wear pants.

A few years ago I sold off almost all my knife collection down to just a very few folders that I thought I’d be OK with. Spyderco PM2 with K390 steel and some custom carbon fiber scales (some Russian guy, can’t recall the name) is probably the one knife I’d fight over.

The K390 steel is absolutely marvelous. It holds a great edge forever. The slabs on the PM2 are too minimalist to be really comfortable, so swapping them to something with more contour was a vast improvement.

So, yeah, that’s the one for me.

Aramis might be the scale maker you are thinking of

I keep forgetting to try K390!

Benchmade 575-1 and 570-1 for me. I prefer manual knives and the blade shape and handle ergos are perfect for my preferences. Steel is acceptable and they won’t break the bank. I have the 575-1 on me all the time. Extremely grippy in all the right places and I really like the scale material. Very smooth action also. IMG_9411.jpeg

Being a southpaw I’ve always been partial to the axis lock. I don’t buy modern folders anymore. Got out of that game when I received my first CPK EDC2.
I’ve owned knives with various locks. Used to carry a manix XL. Still have my Endura and a salt. Axis was always the smoothest fully ambidextrous for me.

Scales by Igorded I think.

I'm fond of these 3:

From the right, my Deviant Blades full custom liner lock is by renowned Belgian maker Filip de Leeuh, and boasts a modified Persian blade in Stellite 6K dendritic cobalt (it can’t rust) and solid Zircuti twist scales;

In the middle is my Monarch B05 MCT, featuring a Rob Thomas “Typhoon” Damascus blade, an integral frame and bolsters in Mokume Gane by Mike Sakmar, and basketweave Carbon Fiber scales. This was a gift from my wife 12 years ago;

And left is my exclusive Custom California-legal Runt 5 automatic, with a reverse Tanto blade in Vegas Forge “Spirograph” stainless steel Damascus and aluminum bronze scales in the Japanese Seigaiha pattern signifying good fortune, and embedded in the opening button is a mosaic pin. This is snappy AF!

No CRK or Shiro, Hmmm.
I used to carry CRK pretty much exclusively for about a decade but started to carry through a rotation of different knives a few years ago. Picking one would be extremely difficult to do.
I gravitated back to Benchmade with the CF/S90V Bugout and absolutely love that knife. I bought a Bailout thinking that I wouldn’t like it but after switching the backspacer find it to be one of my all time favorites- Benchmade does well with M4.Tge Shootout is a great choice for an OTF everyday knife. The Cruwear has really impressed me.
The Kershaw Livewire is also a nice user OTF and I’m curious to see how the magnacut holds up from Kershaw.
Although I love Microtech only the Mini Socom Bravo made the cut this time.
Pro-Tech is my current favorite producer of folders with the Malibu, Mordax, Rockeye Operator, and Ti SBR rolling up my top choices.
There are obviously others in the rotation but this is what I came up with today trying to pick one🤷‍♂️

Few of mine. CS Mini Recon 1…pretty much legal everywhere, cheap enough that it won’t hurt too much to lose or get confiscated, and gotta love the tri-ad lock. Demko AD20.5…also gotta love the shark lock. And AB iMamba…killer looks and quality, and it's not a CRK.
