My birthday is coming up, and I want to buy a new folding knife... what are your suggestions, and whats the best one you've ever owned? i would prefer something with a sturdier blade, but any suggestions are welcome.

What is your budget?

my budget is $50... i want something that can stand up to some use and i don't want anything too expensive in case it breaks.

Ontario Rat 1
Kershaw Skyline
Spyderco Tenacious, Persistence, Resilience
Cold Steel American Lawman

The Cold Steel Voyager series with the Tri-Ad lock are very good. Also the Kershaw Clash or Volt series. There are several Kershaws that would work for you that are on or under the $50 limit. The style of blade you want will also narrow down your choice. I would say if you are really going to abuse it then Cold Steel might be the way to go and they come in a tanto point if you are going to need to use the tip for prying and stabbing into things. I would say just go to one of the knife sites and check out the knives they have that meets your budget. Good Luck! Kevin

As for my favorite knives that I carry there are 3 that were custom made by Alan Davis and my favorite factory knives are the Benchmade 940 and the Spyderco Para 2 with CTS 20CP steel. For cheaper knives it is the old Buck Crosslock 180 model and the Cold Steel Recon 1. THANKS! Kevin :D

My favorites under $50 are the Spyderco Persistance, Kershaw Skyline or the Cold Steel Tuff Lite. It depends on the usage.

Far from my favorite, But I'm going to jump on the voyager bandwagon too. You'd have yo be doing something really, REALLY stupid to break one. Voyagers were my first good knife moving up from flea market folders.

Kershaw blur no dought for 50 that's the one to get . You spend a little more the manix2 or the griptilian.

definitely looking into the kershaw skyline and the spyderco persistence... thanks for all the replies!

A Spyderco Delica is a great edc. good steel, lightweight, and you would be surprised how tuff they can be.

How about a Kershaw Shallot? I have one and I love it. Its a tough knife and it can be found for about $55. It is my most comfortable knife. I like the Skyline, but the Shallot is a lot stronger.

Sounds like you're looking for a one-hander, OP, but my favourite <$50 folder is the Victorinox alox Pioneer. Sometimes the tool I need isn't a sharp blade and my SAK offers me more options. To be perfectly honest, I consider my Pioneer to be far more useful than my Sebenza... far more versatile. Looks good too! I often carry both together and my SAK is definitely used more frequently because it can do more than just cut stuff.

Give one a try if ya haven't already!:cool:

Good luck, OP!

Probably not what you are looking for, but my favorite under $50 folding knife is the Case Mini Trapper.

Dam timber nice carry.

For 55 bucks you can get a kershaw junkyard dog 2 composite blade with cpm d2 cutting edge, strong lock and very ergonmic 3.75 blade.
