What's Your Favorite Kershaw And Why?

I am in the market for a Kershaw flipper. I am not real keen on liner locks (couple of bad experiences) and the only Kershaw I've ever owned was a Chive which opened in my pocket one time and cut me (one of the older ones with the little plastic slider at the end to hold the blade in place).

But I am ready to give them another try. I hear a lot of good things about them so I'd like to know what models you guys like and why. I am wide open here, but I guess I'd prefer a somewhat pointy blade to a drop-point and the thinner, the better for my uses. Size/length is a non-issue.

My favorite is the Kershaw Chill... because it's cheap, high quality, and really classy.

It's one of the slimmest, most compact knives on the market, that still has a decent sized blade. It's almost impossible to tell that you're carrying it.

The blade shape is awesome, and the handle is really comfortable for its size.

As far as the lock, I pushed back on the blade as hard as I could until the point I was afraid of hurting myself, and it didn't budge. Very solid.

Another favorite is the Kershaw Piston, but that's just based on looks, as it hasn't been released yet.

Very nice. I like the design too. It is very similar to Al Mar's folders of which I am a big fan.

My favourite is the Cyclone. That might not be up your alley, as it's a liner lock A/O, but I love it. Another one that's really been growing on me lately is the RAM - great non-assisted flipper design. That one might suit you better.

i really like the JYD2CB. fast opening, great blade steel, tight lockup. if you can deal with the eccentric clip its a fantastic knife.

I too love the Kershaw Chill. It's amazing, especially considering the price. Although it sees more pocket time than my Blur, I like the Blur just a little bit more, but for different reasons. The Blur fills a niche almost perfectly for my 'outdoorsy' folder selection...

I do admit to being something of a Kershaw 'noobatron', but I hope to increase my inventory soon! :)

The DeerHunter. I've had this knife since mid 80s and just find it's ergonomics just about perfect and the blade is just all I need for the majority needs I have. Plus it just feels great in my hands and decent edge retention and easy to sharpen. Would never trade or sell it for a newer steel it's a keeper.

I would not feel uncomfortable at all if it was the only knife I had in a survival situation. Here's the knife: http://www.google.com/products/cata...n&client=safari&rls=en&prmd=ivns&resnum=1&biw

I like the Bumps. They're discontinued, but you can still find some. The Titanium Bump is kind of like a super Shallot, and the Spec Bump is more of a heavy duty knife.

Mine is the Storm. It's mostly sentimental, as it's the piece which started this addiction. However, it's also a strong framelock with good steel. It gets scalpel sharp and holds that edge well.

I am a huge fan of the blur and the JYD II. the JYD is a beast of a knife that flips like a dream. the Blur is elegant, hollow ground, and has a really nice handle. another one i like is the Ener-G II, which is the funnest and fastest flipper i own. they are discontinued, but can be found relatively easily.

My favorite would have to be this ZT0303, which Thomas very generously laid on me. I think that's reason enough to like it, but it just so happens to be a really great knife too.

For me it's the Skyline. The flipper is great, and the knife itself is not too big for comfortable carry (YMMV). The blade steel is OK for what I need it for, but nothing to get really excited about. However, overall I really like the ergos and quality, especially considering the price.

A close second would be the leek. It's a nice slim carry, and the blade profile is great. It does everything I ask of it, and seems very sturdy for such a relatively slim knife.

It flips between my Ti Tyrade and my Ti Bumps....I have both colors...but I think I like hte green more. I think I'm going to go Ti Tyrade for this one.

The Ram, because it feel right has a great lock mechanism, steel, grind, looks as tough as it is, and is fun to flick open....

I like the Blur for when I go out. Lot of knife, not too thick. Fast, nice clip.

The needs work is exactly that, a work knife. Love the blade design. Would buy another knife with that blade shape in an instant. Little bulky. I don't have one, but the flatter G10 needs work might be an answer to that.

The chive is what I carry if I am wearing a suit or something. Or maybe the Scallion.

Those are my favorite Kershaws for those occasions.

The shallot is thin and frame-lock. The leek is just a touch thicker but 1/2" shorter blade. I really like my Ti Tyrade and my composite Rake.

The RAM is a pretty great knife as well. Nice smooth flipper, and an interesting lock mechanism too.

Samael, I notice a Denver Post there. You in Colorado also?

sorry to say, but the Chive is mine hands-down. I've never had a problem with mine, its a smooth opener, and a slicer. Never had it open when i didn't want it to.
